Sauna after HIIT ?

Hi Guys,

Just started doing HIIT and have a couple of questions. My primary goal is weight loss at this time.

Question 1. My routine basically consists of getting on the exercise bike at my local Gym, doing a 5 minute warmup then peddaling as hard and as fast as I can for 1 minute (any longer I start seeing stars). Then waiting for my heart rate to drop below 130 (usually takes about 3-4 mins) before going as hard and as fast as I can again for 1 minute. I repeat this for around 20-25 minutes, 3 times a week.

I'm 31 and theoretically my max HR should be around 189. After the 1 minute work interval my HR is up around the 180 - 185 mark. Ideally I would like my HR to drop to around 123 before starting the work interval again but my HR stabilises around 130. First of all is this routine correct or should I not bother about letting my HR drop below 130 and start again after a 2 min rest interval (1:2 ratio)?

Question 2. I like to go for a sauna immediately after my workouts, does anyone know if this is a good or bad idea. Apart from the obvious dehydration issues are there any other issues that may have good or bad effects.

Thanks

From what I know, going to an infrared sauna is a good idea - but going to steam sauna may not be.
