Hey everybody! I just found the forums last week and this looks like a great community.
I'm 24, 5'11'', and weighing in at 200ish (haven't stepped on a scale in awhile). My goal weight is 160 within the next year. I'm also a smoker, and as of today I'm kicking the habit (nicotine gum and stress ball equipped and ready). Smoking, in particular, has been a major hurdle toward reaching my goal. My biggest strength: I've got a super-supportive wife and family to help me get there.
I'm starting today, and my diet plan is to stick to fresh veggies/fruits, lean meats, and overall portion control. For exercise, I'm going to focus on regular cardio and weight/strength training at least 2-3 times a week. My wife and I have also been contemplating yoga classes, and if anyone knows how effective it might be I'd appreciate the input.
A little background on me: I was overweight throughout much of middle/high school, typically hovering around 220. After high school I joined the military and lost quite a bit of weight shortly thereafter, getting down to about 175 and staying there for a couple years. After leaving active duty my eating/activity habits slowly slid back, and unfortunately I've found myself just about where I was before.
By losing this weight (and keeping it off), I hope to become more confident with my body. Growing up I was always embarrassed with how I looked, and I remember how much better I looked and felt after I lost weight before. I'd like to reaccomplish my goals, and work on changing my lifestyle to stay there permanently.
So, I want to use this diary to record my diet and exercise habits, and for any advice or encouragement you all can pass my way.
Pics/actual 'scale' weight forthcoming. Reading all of your stories and challenges have me excited to start, and determined to finish. Thanks all!
