Hello...today, Monday, 7 November 2011...I'm committing to putting my plan in writing...committing to it publicly! I actually started my journey back on 1 June 2011. I started at 268, and my goal is to be at 150, and as of 1 November 2011, I've lost 57 pounds so far.

Today, 7 Nov 2011: I did 60 min on eliptical, burning 840 cal. (I'm not a calorie counter!), stayed on my plan of no sweets.

Breakfast, 2 eggs + chinese veggies + muslix with nuts, 1 cup tea, 2 glass water ( I live in China...so veggies are served with breakfast!)

Lunch: sweet/sour pork with rice for lunch, 2 bottles water

no dinner.

evening: 1 can soda water and 2 cups hot tea.

Up tomorrow to do about the same thing all over again!

Today...turning cold here in Shenyang.

Burned 854 calories on eliptical

Breakfast: 2 eggs, 3 strips bacon, chinese veggies, muslix

Lunch: Plant canteen food (yuck!)

Supper: None

Hungry tonight, but not going to eat...always makes me feel slimmer when I do that!

It's a Wednesday here, long day at work...it's 8:00pm and just now getting home from work..tired!

1 hr on eliptical, burned 846 cal

breakfast: 2 eggs, 4 strips bacon, sauted eggplant, stirfried cabbage, muslix with walnuts

lunch: rice, sweet/sour pork, chinese veggies

Dinner: none

Feelin' hungry...so I'm going to have some hot green tea!

Here it is already Saturday night. Today I had to work at a job fair for my company...so I couldn't do my usual weekend workout..had to stick to the weekday workout due to time.

I went to pick up some new clothes and some that I had takenup...always feels good to get the clothes smaller that make you feel great!

Worked out 1 hour eliptical: 834 cal

breakfast: 2 eggs, 4 strips bacon, stirfried chicken and veggies, muslix with nuts

Lunch: salad with grilled chicken

Dinner: grilled chicken and greek salad

It's Sunday morning here in Shenyang, China! Turning cool and days getting short ! We do not change times here in China so it's getting dark around 4:30 in the afternoon...and it's only November!

This morning, I did 60 min on the eliptical = 803 Cal (took Chinese lessons this morning for the hour while on the eliptical...always burn less cal. when I'm trying to learn and speak Chinese while pumping it out). Then did 15 minutes on the rowing machine for another 103 cal, then did some weights.

If I feel up to it, I'll come down later again today while my husband is out.

Breakfast, 2 eggs, sweet n sour chicken and stir fried veggies. Muslix. The hotel where we live changed things up a bit...they added a waffle station with all the toppings...it's not on my menu though! Was able to admire the heaping waffles of others but knew (and continue to know) it's not for me!

Not sure what the rest of the day will bring...one day at a time, just relaxing today!

I saw these questions posted several places on here and decided to answer them for myself:

1. What is your current height and weight?[/b]
5'7", 211lbs as of 1 Nov 2011
2. If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?[/b]
150 lbs
3. At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?
180
4. Why do you want to lose weight?[/b]
To look good, avoid diabetes which runs in my family and get back in shape I was before entering basic training.
5. Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event?[/b]
Not really, but I do have a family reunion in May 2012 that would be a good surprise for my family!
6. What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?[/b]
Business trips.
7. Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?[/b]
Clothes are too big and the mirror doesn't lie! I don't look good and not in as good of physical shape as I used to. BMI scale says I'm obsese and it's right.
8. What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?[/b]
Keeping the workout schedule, no deserts, no softdrinks...and keeping the routine during business trips.
9. Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?[/b]
I've lost alot of weight over my lifetime...when I was in the Active Army Reserve, I had a weigh in each month (always seemed to be on the weight control program :-(). Typically exercised and had to always be on a "diet" (no sweets etc...but always "rewarded myself" after the weighin).
10. Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back?[/b]
To easy to eat the "feel good" food. Food has always been a comfort for me.
11. What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Why do you think it did not work?[/b]
Counting calories...too complicated and my husband does all the cooking, and he's not willing to do this.
12. Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?[/b]
Yes, but I don't like this.
13. Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?[/b]
No, my husband cooks...we eat here in a hotel (home) for breakfast, then he fixes me lunch (left overs from weekend restaurant food), then no dinner.
14. How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
Typically once per weekend.
15. What are your three favorite foods?
Steak, potatoes, but also like Chinese food
16. What are your three favorite restaurants?[/b]
Local Chinese restaurant, any good US steak house,
17. What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?[/b]
Not overeat. Drink lots of water during the day.
18. If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?[/b]
I would weigh 60lb's ( less hips, less belly).
19. Do you eat when you are not hungry?
Sometimes.
20. Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
not typically, but when I do, it's a "reward" for sacrifices in the past!
21. Do you hide your food or eat in secret?
No.
22. Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?
Yes.
23. Do you eat as a reward?
Yes...
24. Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?
No, except in the office at work.
25. What do you normally eat for a meal?
chinese veggies, rice, meat.
26. What type of snacks do you eat?
walnuts, almonds, dried fruits.
27. In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?[/b]
1 hr elipitcal
28. Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home?[/b]
fitness center in hotel
29. What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?[/b]
walking on treadmill, rowing (to stretch my back after walking on treadmill), eliptical
30. What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?[/b]
The number on the scale. Clothes feeling looser than they did last week. Taking clothes to be taken up!

31. Do you have rewards for certain goals?[/b]

Buying new clothes!

Still Sunday, just got back from the fitness center, pumped out another 1hr on the elipitcal for 856 calories...feeling better now!

Got a new aquarium today and getting the water, sand and plants cleaned up now...now for the fish! We have a small one and I just really enjoy looking at the movement. Now this has nothing to do with weight loss...it's just part of the day!

Good luck to all the weight losers reading this...it is so worth it!

If you want to check out my blog about living and working in China, it's http://www.shengyangteammiller.blogspot.com

Welcome along Sarah, and congrats on the 50+ lbs you've lost so far.

Living in China sounds really exciting, I've always harboured a desire to move abroad at some stage, don't quite have the resources to get to where I'd like to go at the moment though!

Good luck on getting to your goal, I'm sure you'll have no trouble considering how far you've already come.

Thanks Lone Rover! I need all the help I can get! I really appreciate your encouraging words!

Today, another 1 hr on the eliptical (836) ...I've finished my Chinese audio lessons on the ipod except for the review...not sure what I'll start next to keep my mind busy while I'm pumping out the calories!

Breakfast: 2 eggs, sauteed pork, some chinese vegetable I've eaten several times, but still not sure what it is...feels like eating daylilly stems! Good for ruffage I guess!

Lunch: Sweet & Sour pork, fried rice and chinese veggies (it's from one of my favorite hole in the wall restaurants here in Shenyang)

Dinner: None

Consumed Lots of water today...I always feel like I'm making progress when I drink lots of water...even if it's just all in my mind!

I've got 2 major business trips starting next week (France and Brazil), so it will take alot of planning and work to get keep my exercise going and calorie intake down...this will be the 3rd major trip since I started on this journey, so I know how to do it...but doesn't make it any easier...just sayin! I'll make my measurements for November on hips, bust and waist before I go!

Good luck to all the weightloss champions!

Today started like most every day...55 minutes on the eliptical and burned 803 (5 minutes shorter than normal because I layed in 5 minutes longer..but still managed to knock out 800 cal target!

For breakfast I had sauteed eggplant, braised beef and baby chinese cabbage and some muslix. No eggs today. My husband went off to get a PET scan early today, so I've been, in his words", in a tizzy. Thankfully, it all came back clean!! That's a big deal for us today! Thank you GOD!! I came home early from work (a 9 hour day is early) and had a small dinner with him tonight...grilled chicken and califlower. I normally don't get home before 6, so I rarely eat dinner...but tonight, we had a small dinner at 5:30 and just enjoyed being together with some really good news! Weight loss is important to me, but not as important as my lifemate...today, I can have both, and for that I am very grateful!

Hi my name is Norma and i just joined this forum. I was really driven to answer to this post because i was really motivated about the fact that you are determined to take full control towards a healthy life. However, i see that you decide to skip meals beacuse it makes you feel slimmer.lol.. the truth is that i used to do that before and little did i know that eventhough it works, it really doesn't work as well as given the body the proper meals as needed. For example, you do good given the body a healthy breakfast and lunch but by skipping dinner the truth is that although mentally you may feel slimmer doing that your body eventually starts to shout down and instead of losing weight your body goes into storage mood therefore its trying to hang to the first two foods you ate previously instead of shedding the pounds that you want. Sarah i may have a good suggestion to help you lose your weight faster or to just keep following a healthier lifestyle if u allow me to. Hope your interested and let me know if i can give u some words of advice. Take care

Hello Niefitness..sure, I'm interested in input..obviously I reserve the right to follow or not! After 57 pounds, and another 50 to go, it will be hard for me to "fix it if it ain't broke", but I'll try to keep an open mind..as long as you're not selling something.

Today, got up and did 903 calories on the eliptical,

Breakfast: 2 eggs, sauteed pork, cabbage and bean curd, whatever the green leafy veggie is! and some muslix

Lunch: Fried rice, sweet & sour pork and chinese veggies

Dinner: None, green tea

Today, first snow fall in Shenyang...it's the beginning of a long, cold, dark winter here in Northern China.

Today, it's Saturday and I woke up early so I hit the fitness center at my normal time (5:10am) and did my 1 hour on the eliptical for 856 cal, then another 20 minutes on the rowing machine for 187 cal, then a quick round of weights. Always good not to feel rushed in the workout. After that, I had a nice breakfast with 2 eggs, green leafy vegetables, beef with bean curd and some muslix. A little later I went back for a few cubes of watermelon.

It's sun shine and cold here today in Shenyang...good day for staying inside and getting packed up for my upcoming business trips to France and Brazil...still gotta make sure my exercise clothes will fit in with business clothes and any other stuff I decide to bring back.

I may go back to exercise a little this afternoon...not sure yet...just really enjoying being home!

thanks rainyforest138! This forum is really helping me...get to read encouragement and be honest with myself on what I'm eating and how I'm doing.

I just finished lunch of sweet & sour pork (really small portion), chinese vegetables and a type of dumpling here called jaousa, toped off with a tangerine with sliced banana...they are so good this time of year here! It's almost 2:00pm so I'll probably change clothes to go exercise. I have a work dinner tonight, so I'll eat more than normal today. I did my measurements today...I was amazed at my progress in 3 weeks! -2 inches on my hips, -0.5 inches around my bust and-1.0 inches around my waist. Super psyched for another good workout today!

scibhouse,

Read through your posts/ answers to 101 questions. The last one "got" me. I like to buy clothes when I lose weight too!

I haven't bought clothes in a loooooong time.

Been a heavy for a spell.

Planning on changing that though.

Looks like you've had a bit of success (Congratulations.) so I'll be following along if you don't mind.

Hello Extra!

I certainly don't mind if you tag along on my journey..and it is just that a journey..a process, not an event. I've been heavy for "a spell" too, but I decided to end that back on 1 June 2011...with some unexpected, unwelcome (at the time) prompting from my husband this would change. I love him dearly (we've been married for 28 years) and although I was hurt, I knew he was right. I'm 51 years old and diabetes runs in the family..and it had already set in on my sister, who has been on a weightloss journey for the past year and has lost over 100 pounds. So, I know exactly what you're talking about! I got packed up this morning for my business trips in the coming 2 weeks...had to sqeeze the clothes in, but made sure I had my exercise clothes and shoes!

Last night, I had a fund raiser event to go to and bought on silent auction an authentic Japanese Kimono...now what do I need with that? And, of course, it is made the size of authentic Japanense ladies...small...so, while I can get it around me, it gapes open around my hips...so more motivation to lose more of my butt! So, for now, it's hanging in my closet...I know it's there, but it probably won't see the light of day for awhile...and even when it does fit, have no idea where I would wear that thing...although it is beautiful! I just remind myself it was for a good cause (an orphanage here in China) and go on!

This morning, I took a little break from the fitness center (I'll go down later today)

Breakfast: 2 eggs, sauteed pork, green chinese vegetables and muslix for breakfast

Lunch: Cesar salad with grilled chicken, 1 piece of fried fish, 1 piece of pork tenderloin.

It's Sunday evening, Just got back from the fitness center...cranked out 1 hour on the eliptical for 834 cal + 30 minutes on the treadmill for 230 cal. Not sure what exercise is going to be for the next 2 weeks...I know for the 1st one, the hotel does not have a fitness center...so I'll have to walk/run on the city streets early in the morning to get my exercise... then the other one, I have no idea... No matter what, I plan to keep up the regime and stick to it...even if it means doing jumpin' jacks, sit-ups, pushups and toe touches (which I can finally do again now!) in my room. Gotta leave those baguettes alone though!

Wish me luck...2 international trips back to back for 2 weeks will be a challenge...but I'm going to do it! I'll try to post from my ipod touch while abroad!

Ugh. I used to travel a lot for work and my first question (back when I was in shape) - does the hotel have a gym??

It's tough with working late and business dinners, which can be calorie busters.

I think you're motivated and I believe you can find a way to exercise. It's good you're already pondering ways to stay on track.

Happy Trails!

So, typing on iPod touch is tough, so I will make this quick. Traveling is a challenge. No fitness centers so far, so I' be hit the streets walking in early morning. Not the same, but it's something! Sfood intake seems to be going ok, but certainly is different than my routine. I fly to my next meeting in Brazil tonight... Hopefully there will be a fitness center there, but not hopeful as I'll be in a small town about 3 hrs north of Rio. I will miss my 1st of month weigh in, but, I'm not worried, my pants are loose... And that's a good sign. I also bought a couple of St James blouses here in France. Size 48( equivalent of 16 in US)... It's been a long time since I've been able to do that! Loved that feeling! I'll update again when I get a minute!
