Sandbags and Farmers Walks

Hey guys, I know some of you here do some more unconventional lifting, like with concrete bags etc.

I recently got a couple of 70lb. bags of tube sand to do farmers walks etc. with. THe bag seems sturdy and it doesn't leak, but there is a warning on the front that says "contains silicon sometihng or another, DO NOT BREATHE DUST, YOULL GET CANCER"

The bags are more or less sealed, I should be fine right?

Does it contain crystalline silica? Basically, that's a dust thought to cause lung cancer. You don't want to breathe it in because if you breathe enough of it, you might end up with silicosis.

Use it outside and you'll probably be fine ;) But it really depends on whether or not the fabric it is sealed in can contain the particulate matter.

**** I'm so dead. I've worked concrete and landscaping the last 3 summers and I've breathed in my fair share of micro silicate dust and aluminum dust. I'm going to get that extraordinarily painful and rare form of silicosis that has a really long name that I forget.

I would return those if you can and get play sand. There are usually 50 or 70lb bags of play sand at any hardware store

yeah, i tihnk it does, you more or less QUOTED the warning ont he bag. i'm screwed.

return it, get ur $ back. Buy some Quikrete and 2 five gallon buckets with handles. Fill accordingly and walk down the road LOL Its the ultimate farmers walk

Dude, I just happened to get some quikrete tube sand (it dind't have a warning, so I assumed it was safe) and it was way cheaper (bought it at lowes, 2 dollars for a 60 lb. bag).

I already got nylon rope and made handles for the bags themselves.

What's wrong with using good old-fashioned dumbells for the farmers walk?
That way you can just adjust the weight when you want to go heavier instead of looking for bigger bags. Less of an awkward shape to carry as well

The awkward shape is one of the benifits thought. I do a bit of this stuff and yeah sand off the beach for my sand bags

Nice suggestion. I'm gonna try this the next time I'm in the gym.
