Phate, it's kinda funny actually... I train a lot of athletes. My newest team that I have had for the last month is a semi-pro team call the Arkansas Impact, and they all kind of scoffed with I broke out my bands. Suffice it to say, I made believers out of them. The first time we did this they couldn't even do a second circuit.
Now that they've been going for a month, they have ALL reported back to me that they are running faster, they're more explosive, they jump higher, and they don't fatigue as fast.
Other than giving you the look of a ripped athlete, they aren't going to pack on a ton of mass by themselves. You can add real weights, like so:
I should clarify that I don't train bodybuilders, nor do I have any interest in training them. When I first walked into the gym and met my team, they were all doing DB curls and bench press. For some stupid reason even finely tuned genetic freaks like these guys believe that is what you are supposed to do when you go to the gym. My only concern is getting them faster, stronger, more efficient runners, higher jumpers, etc.
A nice side effect is shedding bodyfat like it's going out of style though.
Tony, I don't use tubes. They have a definite "stopping point" and when you reach it the band stops instantly. If I were running out with tubes and hit that point I could seriously injure myself.
I am very picky when it comes to bands. I don't even use molded bands. I use layered latex bands because they don't break, and if you nick them, you only hurt a small layer. Taken care of properly, a set of bands could last you a decade.
I have some tubing in my gym, but it just doesn't compare, and I just don't use it.
One last thing... I can't get enough of your avatar!
