Running the day after leg workout??

I'm not sure which board to post this in so I'll put it here and hopefully someone can move it elsewhere if need be.

I've been doing a split workout routine for a few weeks now and have been running every other day for 30 minutes for about a week or so.

My question is, is it overkill to run the day after my leg workout? My legs were definitely sore before I ran, and they were pretty much shot for the remainder of the day after I ran.

Thanks in advance.

I usually avoid it, seems like overtraining to me. Maybe change up your schedule a bit, by running two days in a row.

I don't think so. I have been working out my legs and speed, and I do my speed after I workout (then next daY). It does feel a little like overworking, but you will get used to it. and add some endurance.

how 'sore' are your legs? if they are painful, you did too much for a leg workout with weights. shouldn't be any worse than stiffness or a very light ache. if it actually hurts, even a little, you over worked the muscles.

no pain = opportunity for gain
pain = over-damaged muscles.

Guess I could have been more elaborate. They weren't painfully sore, but more sore as in already weak feeling. After the run(when I say run I actually mean 30 minute jog at a moderate to light pace...I hate running) my thighs were tight and even more weak.

My leg workout was Friday, and I jogged 30 minutes the following morning. Today I notice the slight ache you referred to but only when I move certain ways. It is very light though, almost unnoticeable.

I'm only running for aerobic fat burning activity rather than trying to get faster or even stronger in the legs.

BTW, thanks for the previous replies. I'm a complete newb when it comes to fitness so I appreciate the comments from people more experienced than I.

sounds like you probably just needed more stretching. sounds like the normal DOMS associated with a proper workout, not over kill.

my calves get incredibly tight, and i often stretch mid jog, several times, to stay limber.
i wasn't built for running :)
