Running or bicycling for commuting?

How many runners and bicyclists here run or bicycle for commuting?

For example:
* run or bicycle to work (or to public transportation to work)
* run or bicycle to the store
* run or bicycle to the gym

Obviously, this does not preclude running or bicycling purely for doing some running or bicycling. But it does seem to me that if you are going somewhere within running or bicycling range, and do not have to carry more cargo than you can run or bicycle with, it would be a very time efficient way to get a running or bicycling workout in.

I wish I could commute to work on my bike but I don't have the kind of job that enables me to do it.

I have recently taken up using my longboard to get around. It only takes about 5 minutes longer and saves sooooooo much gas. Its 2.20 a litre over here.

I can't really use it for my work commute (28 miles) but I started using it for get to the gym (3.4 miles), college (8.1 miles), and just for fun into the Baltimore city streets on the state parks in the suburbs.

It feels great.

yaarr...My work is less than 5 miles away, so it's easy enough to bike to work everyday, break a sweat, then cool off before I get there, but then race my ass back home as fast as possible.

I used to cycle to work and home again, mainly during the summer. It was only around 5km to my work and only took 15 minutes but it had some good hills so was an alright workout.

Now I walk to work every day, 5km takes me a good 50 minutes but saves SO much on petrol.

If it has hills you need a longboard.

Uhmm...I won't even consider running to work 'cause that would make me all sweaty. My boss would surely give me a scolding. lol

I guess riding the bicycle would give me a nice light workout since my office isn't too far from where I live. I did read though in some magazine that riding the bike isn't the most efficient cardio workout so I'm not doing it much for the past months.
