Routine from friend, 2nd opinion needed.

Hi, I'm about to start getting into shape and one of my friends gave me this routine. My friend is quite strong but in all honestly I don't think he has a clue what he is talking about. Here is the routine he suggested and this is EVERYDAY (he said this is for beginners and that he does more :eek: ):

100 sit ups
20 crunches
25 butterflys
15 frog kicks
10 leg lifts
50 curls
8 good mornings
20 tri lifts
25 tri flat lifts
30 push ups
40-tri pushups
30-peck lifters
15-crux
15-squats
15-lifts
 
Also I do not know what alot of these exercises are. Another friend of mine said this routine is too much and suggested I buy a set of weights or join a gym and said this would be a more sensible routine (he also admitted he does not know too much about fitness so suggested I should sign up to a fitness forum, so I did!)

Anyway here is the routine my other friend suggested:

Monday:
Chest and Arms
(3x10 reps)

Wednesday:
Shoulders and Back
(3x10 reps)

Friday:
Legs and Abs
(3x10 reps)

However because he does not know too much about fitness and strength training he could not tell me what were great exercises to use in the routine. As I am a student and do not have much cash would it be possible to put together a routine just using body exercises (just to get started) and then I hope to get a gym membership. Sorry for the long post but I really need help and any help would be greatly appreciated!!
