Well... Hm. Guess I'm doing this now. Let's see... First, I'll introduce myself.

My name is... Wait, I shall give you only my Internet name. Call me Rokan.

I'm a 23-year-old male. I'm 5 feet 10 inches tall, and I'm approximately 300-310 pounds. Not very pretty.

I've been a big guy for as long as I can remember. Right out the womb, I was a chunky baby. (Mom said I was her most difficult birth and I was her 4th child.) In the 5th grade, I weighed 150-odd pounds. By my senior year in high school, I was 250. During and after a brief college stint, things went more and more downhill.

I'm still living at my parents. And i don't have a real job. Yeah yeah, I know, the usual: a hopeless, jobless nerd living with his parents. Hue hue hue.

But I'm not the cliche Jabba the Hutt-esque nerd who never leaves his room and is generally bad tempered towards people especially on the Internet. While I'm a bit socially awkward in person, I'm very relaxed and I often get up to clean around the house. I babysit my 3-year-old nephew (who never sits still for more than a few seconds) once a week. I like to play video games, but not for extremely long periods of time, and not all night long. I like to get out when I can, especially if I've been cooped up for a long time. And for a while since last year up until this April, I was taking care of my mother, who was undergoing treatment for breast cancer. (She is cancer-free now)

I'm very lucky to have a roof over my head and food to eat despite my joblessness. But, I want to turn around my life, and I guess the best place to start is with my weight.

My diet has... never been good. Fast food, junk food, sodas amongst other bad things were a plague in my house. On top of that, I ingested massive amounts of it. We've gotten better stuff in the pantry, but it hasn't helped the fast food part much.

We've all tried dieting before, but the efforts died off a week into it, usually. My mom is a factor in this. She is the pickiest person in the world. She hates fish and does not like healthier food alternatives. She'll even turn her nose up on lean ground beef on the complaint that its too dry to her.

So, my plan? Well, it's very simple. I'll be changing things but its not a calorie counting type thing. First of all, no sodas whatsoever, and no drinking of calories if I can help it. In other words: Water, water, water. I'll need to take caffeine pills for a few weeks so caffeine withdrawal won't turn me into a headachy grouch.

As for food: lots of lean proteins. Lean meat, fish, beans, protein bars, protein shakes, etc. etc. Also veggies. I love some steamed brocolli. I'll have to fix my meals separate from my parents. Oh yeah, and no fast food.

We have a treadmill now, so I'm going to walk an hour per day. I will up the intensity as I get more in shape.

I may add some exercises and stuff later, but for now, I'll stick with this plan. I'm hoping to lose 100 pounds by the time I'm 25.

I'll be starting this adventure this coming Monday, the 15th. Until then, I'm going to pick up a few things from the grocery store and prepare myself mentally for this, as it will not be easy.

So, lets see what happens. It'll be interesting.

Welcome dude! When I started here in 2009 I did a 100 day no fast food thing that helped me get started well. You have youth on your side. Your body will quickly gain strength and stamina if you keep exercising...good luck!

Welcome!!

Weight loss journey's are not easy, but they are well worth it. I'm starting (again) and for me, with 2 very young children it will be harder than the first time I started, but it has to be done. I don't want them growing up unhealthy or with unhealthy parents!

I used to play video games, now I don't have time. I sometimes wish I had some time for it, but when I do have time, I'd rather watch some of my TV shows, lol.

Do you like anime at all? I do, so if you don't... be nice about it! lol

If you want, we can try and keep each other on track. I need the support and I'm sure you do too (we wouldn't be on here if we didn't!)

It's too bad your mom isn't more open minded about food and eating healthier. But, as long as you are eating better for yourself, that's all that matters. If you have to cook for them, maybe try and eat yours first, so you won't be starving and tempted to eat their food. Also, I heard that drinking a glass of water 30 mins before meals really helps. I should do that myself, I'm terrible at drinking water. I don't even drink anything else. I think I'm permanently dehydrated!!! I don't keep pop in the house and the juice is for my daughter so I don't touch it. When I remember to drink I drink 2-4 glasses of water. So I definitely need to up that!

I'm glad you have a treadmill, walking is a great way to start!

Well, I better go, it's getting late (and no it really isn't late, but with two little kids anything past 10 feels late to me now... so sad!)

PS - It's great you're starting this at 23. I'm 29 and I wish that when I started when I was younger, that I would have kept it up. I was even almost at my goal! Ah well, nothing I can do about it now but move forward and do it again ;)

Why wait till the 15th, start today! :)
Your plan sounds great but I would add exercise in, even if its just walking for an hour a day.
Exercise really helps with weight loss as well as feeling good,
Sport releases happy hormones in our bodies which then allows us to keep happy and motivated in our goals.
Don't deprive yourself either, I gave up soda and juice but if I really craved one I had a coke zero, now I know diet sodas have worse things in them but I only drunk one every few weeks, not every day.
I'm just saying, if you have a diet soda once every few weeks you will be less likely to binge on a liter of coke since you have missed it so much.
I also allowed myself one meal a week where I could eat a meal I wanted, it taught me to have treats but in moderation.

@brawny: Thanks! Fast food is gonna be tough for me, as I am told to fetch some for dinner once or twice a week.

@Clarissa: Thanks!

@Risty: I do like anime, but have only seen a few series. Fullmetal Alchemist (the old and new series), Gurren Lagann, DBZ, and Hellsing Ultimate are amongst the series I've watched all the way through. And sure, I guess we can try to keep each other on track. Thanks for the advice!

@Nostalgic: Well, I would start today, but I am currently posting this from North Myrtle Beach. I'm on vacation right now, and its a bit hard to choose what I eat right now, especially with nine othe people. Gonna go to a good fish restaurant with my dad tonight though. They have excellent grilled flounder. I'm returning home Saturday night. Sunday is grocery and preparation day. Also, I did say I was walking on the treadmill an hour a day. Once my body has adjusted a bit to this routine and I hit a plateau, I'll up the intensity, and I'll look up some good exercises. And yes, I have heard about the deprivation thing. While I'm hoping to stay off sodas and such completely, I know it won't be easy. I'm looking to my grandpa for motivation on this particular weight loss hurdle. He's not a big person, unlike myself, but he loved sugary stuff. But then, the doctor said he was pre-diabetic three years ago. From that moment on, he completely cut out high-sugar foods, drinks, and candies. And even though he was no longer a pre-diabetic a long time ago, he still keeps to it. He refuses to drink sodas and desserts at family gatherings. Hopefully, with that motivation, I can stick to this plan. Thanks for the advice!

Treadmill, I always miss some detail when reading :/
And yes being on holiday is a hard time to start.
I think your plan is great.
Great you have some support too from someone who cut out sugary things.
Sugar is my weakness, I found though that the lemon flavored yogurts of 0% fat taste like a lemon tart, got me through many cravings for a dessert :D
After a while though you will find you don't crave these things as much. After I dropped the weight from my last pregnancy I found myself craving my lunch time salad rather than a juicy burger and fries that I used to prefer (even before the pregnancy I ate badly)
I'm starting my weight loss plan after the birth in a few weeks. Being pregnant and near the end I just can't say no to sweet things as I'm uncomfortable enough. I will have 30 kgs to drop.

I hope you are having a great holiday! I'm starting my exercise program on the 15th as well. I'm going to do the Focus T25 at home workout program. Since I don't have much time to myself, it's only 25 mins long, so I can squeeze it in after the kids go to bed.

I haven't seen some of those anime. I saw the first FMA but I want to see the new one. I heard it stuck more to the storyline of the manga and was better! A couple of my favourites are Trigun and Escaflowne. Trigun starts off really silly (which I like funny anime) but then the story line really picks up and is good). Escaflowne, I just love it. A lot of the newer stuff I haven't seen. I have been meaning to watch Bleach and Death Note. But I haven't even had the chance to watch my Samurai 7 that I own. Ah well, one day.

DAY 1

Well here we are, the very beginning of a very long road. Hm, gonna be tricky.

I'm weighing myself using a Wii Fit Plus game I received from a friend who had no further use of it. This morning I weighed in at 300.9 pounds. Less than I was expecting after the vacation full of heavy eating. I was expecting closer to 310. Here's hoping it's a good sign.

For breakfast, I had some egg whites and ham, so nothing fancy. After breakfast, I walked on the treadmill at a constant speed of 2.5 miles per hour with the incline set at 2 (10 is the highest setting for that), I walked for an hour, so the distance I walked was (surprise, surprise) 2.5 miles.

For lunch, I had a chicken sandwich (deli meat chicken) with low-sodium chicken and light mayo. And for dinner I had a couple strips of London broil with steamed asparagus and a few homemade baked potato wedges (which are cooked with a small bit of seasoning and coated in olive oil). Had only water to drink today.

All different from the heavy diet I was on. I could still feel hunger pangs, but I've been keeping that at bay for the most part by sipping water.

Didn't really do much else today. Had nowhere to go. Just cleaned up a bit, read, and played a couple games.

So far so good, I might say. But, this is just the first day, and it gets harder as time presses on. Going to do my best to stick to it, though. I wanna get down to 200 pounds by March 3rd, 2015 (My 25th birthday).

Missing you on here, hope it's going ok. If you are struggling, this is the best place to let it out!
