RMR? Eating under it!

So i have to say, the idea of RMR is rather..foolish. I mean i get the body has needs but to say someone NEEDS to eat 1665 calories a day (me) just to maintain seems..insane!

I should say i am Vegan, 1600 calories is ALOT!! Besides that at 138 and 6'2 i really wanna get down to 130 so why not just eat 1300 or 1400. Toss in morning cardio and of course evening pilates and cardio, daily, and i think thats more then enough!

I just can't get over it, 1600 calories...i mean damn! I swear this is for someone who eats meats and dairy.

My question is, am i alone here? Are any of my fellow veggie/fruity heads in agreement?

Hi there!

While I'm more on the carnivore side than the vegan side, I can totally agree with you that 1600 calories a day is high! I know you'll do great sticking with ~1300.

I'm thinking if it were targeted at a certain group, it would be people eating more processed or instant foods - that one quality makes it nearly impossible to eat and still stay within a 1600 calorie per day range :( But I know, not everyone has time to cook. Raw food might be a better option for them.

What kind of vegan foods do you use to make up a 1300 calorie daily plan?

After seeing your BMI I'm retracting the advice given. I think you should consult a doctor.

According to the table i've got in front of me, you are already very underweight for your height. Are you already skinny? What's your bmi?

For 6.2, according to this table a healthy weight range is between 11 stone 3 pounds and 13 stone 13 pounds.

(14 pounds to the stone) In kilos, is 71-88kg.

I know that this table is fair and reasonable because my weight range is 55-68 and that's a very generous range. at 55 i am very small and at 68, i feel quite overweight, although apparently its still healty. (-8 stone 9 pounds to 10 stone 10 pounds. I'm 5.5 in feet.

So on the basis of this table alone alone, i'd say that your notion that 1600 cals being far too much is simply wrong and for you 1300 cals per day is foolish.

You sound as though you might be anorexic?

138 pounds is around what I weigh now and I am not fat.

Fortyfour is right regarding your BMI (which I hadn't done before my initial post to you) and according to the estimation, you are underweight.

it says that your BMI is 17

Anything under 18.5 is considered underweight.

Good eye FortyFour

Not to be 'that guy', but umm...

You think it's insane that someone 'NEEDS' to eat 1,665 calories a day to maintain their (your) weight, but some people might think it's insane for you, at 6' 2" in height, to want to get down to 130 lbs. You already only weigh 138 lbs and a lot of BMI charts list that as "UNDERweight" - and you still want to get smaller?

I might rethink this whole losing weight thing if I were you.
