Ripped Skin Off Toe

Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum.
Current stats: 6 foot, 294 LBS.
I have been briskly walking 4 miles a day at about 15 min/mile.
Today I felt some mild burning in my shoe during the last stretch. when i took my shoes off, one of my toes had the skin ripped off the side of it where it rubbed up against the toe next to it.
Any suggestions to all me to walk tomorrow and also to prevent this in the future?
Thanks-
CW

Keep it clean- the skin will need to heal but to do that it needs to be clean and uninfected.

Keep it covered- for a while a plaster will do but once its gotten some form of healing underway, a gauze would be enough.

If your shoe is a problem, you need to deal with that. It could be you need bigger shoes. As we exercise our body swells due to the heat and water in our bodies becomming warmer and expanding. Our feet are no exception. Runners are advised to buy the next size or half size up of running shoe for example. It could also be that you just need a shoe thats more supportive or fits your foot better.

If its really painful, maybe even take a break for a day or two to get some form of healing underway, just make sure it can breathe if your doing this as the oxygen (and sun light if you can) will help the healing, but if you are on the move, better to keep it covered and protected to ensure it stays safe.

Not had this happen to my toe but I do sometimes make the seemilng insane choice to wear skin tearing shoes (but the look so cute...!) and often have blisters, torn skin and painful feet. Keeping the wound protected and padded is the best thing if your exercising I find.

A common sort of accident runners often get is a ripped toenail where the entire thing comes off- as painful as it sounds infact. It could be worth a look on google on ripped toe nails for runners to see if anything else comes up.

Thanks summer!
That was both extremely helpful and traumatic (cringes at toe nails) at the same time!LOL!
All healed up!
now 2nd rip of skin... lol
