Rib/Intercostal Injury

I kind of added a question to a Rib injury thread, but figured that I should start my own to get some thoughts.

I hurt my lower, left side of my ribs last weekend. There isn't a specific moment where I know I did some damage, but after attempting to wakeboard, and then finally getting up (and having a blast) I got back on the boat and my ribs were hurting (both sides at this point). Later in the evening it was just the left side and over the weekend into the early part of last week the pain was pretty bad.

At first I thought I broke a rib, but now I think it may be a strained intercostal muscle - does that make sense?

Either way - I plan on trying to get back into the gym this week. It was killing me to sit out all of last week and the though of being out for several weeks is hard to take.

I'd love to hear any advice on how to ease back into things with an injury - specifically a strained core muscle. anything to avoid? Anything to work on (streches, light weights, yoga, etc)?

Thanks!
