Review the basics for the new year.

I thought it would be a good idea for everyone to throw in a few of their basic rules that have helped you lose weight, for the new year.
Here's a couple of mine.
A) Don't under eat! make sure you eat enough of the right foods at the right time so you don't get hungry later.
B) Drink enough water!
okay.. I'm going to leave it at 2 rules. What do you have?

#1. Write a food diary.

Write down everything you eat during the day. You don't wonna have to write a lot of cookies and chocolates etc. down, it will only make you feel bad. While writing down healthy stuff, will make you feel proud.

i was gonna give you rep for starting this topic to help out all the little new years newbies but then the site was like, "oh no you don't" :-/

-eat whatever you want WITHIN your calories. If you want a cheeseburger, eat a damn cheeseburger.
-we ain't getting any younger. Do it properly and get it over with.

when you are in "diet mode", stick to your diet. When you are going to cheat and treat yourself to something good, treat yourself and call it a cheat day. Don't beat yourself up over a cheat day, because that's what they are for! And make sure that you plan your cheat days ahead of time. No eating a crappy breakfast, and saying that is your cheat day. :p

Remember... If you lie to others about what your eating or on your own personal dairy, The only one it hurts is YOU. You are the one who will gain weight or not lose it. You may try to fool yourself...but you body will tell! Keep things real and then you can look back and see why you didn't lose weight or what helped you lose more weight.

NEED to add this: I love this about this forum.
DON'T BEAT YOURSELF UP!
We're all human. If you slide back a bit, just pick up where you left off.
Feeling guilty or bad about your weight is nonproductive.
Look forward to the weight you'll lose today and tomorrow!

My few Newyears Rules

1) Drink more water (and crystal light also is good once in a while:blush5:)
2) No eating after 7pm (I was notorious for eating after 7, especially when im working late evenings and decide at that moment that a big bowl of kraft dinner would be fantastic...HA!)

So ive been doing really good on both those rules, I do tend to get a bit hungry in the evening, depending on what time i had dinner at, so I have some sugar free jello or maybe a small peice of cheese and a few crackers, nothing too extreme!

As far as the water goes, its super easy to get your 8 glasses a day! I dont know how I was ever fooled before "its too hard to drink that much" man oh man, I was such a whiner!!

  • Get enough protein & fiber.
  • Don't eat too much.
  • Don't worry about whether some guru on TV would think your food is healthy. Mmmmmm, butter.
  • Try eat more unprocessed/low processed foods and less processed crap - even if Hostess Cupcakes are delicious! (Wow, haven't had one of those in years)
  • If you do eat something you "shouldn't" have, don't sweat it. Eating a gallon of ice cream because you gave in and ate a cookie is like throwing yourself down the stairs because you slipped on the top step.

bahahaha I love the last one! I lol'd really bad!
but so true lol
"well I already had 5 cheezies, I might as well eat the rest of the bag"

Hehe, I paraphrased that from someone else on the board, but it's so true!

I used to do the same thing "Well, I already had one brownie... might as well have five or six more!" lol. Soooo counter productive!

This needs a bump for enhanced visibility.

-Diets don't work. There's no need to spend hundreds of dollars on programs that will end up collecting dust on your shelf. Weight loss is simply calories in vs calories out. Any so called "diet" plan is that just that philosophy wrapped up in shiny packaging. Save money....hang out on these forums!

-I might meet some resistance here but weight loss is 90% nutrition and 10% exercise. If you don't put it in you...there's no need to sweat it out of you. Focus on your nutrition and supplement with exercise!

You guys said about all there is to say!

1....Eat healthy!
2....Remember portion sizes

If you crave something that you like "reward" yourself and have a little, but not every day. And remember you are NOT allowed to give in while on Daybehavior's Challenges! Eyes are watching you, remember that! lol. Take this opportunity and put this challenge to your advantage! When you reach your goal then have that Wendy's cheeseburger, or Fallsburgs sub that I really really L.............ove! By the way Daybehavior, you know I don't like seafood except "LONGJOHN SLIVERS":leaving:

Don't be surprised if the Overseer "accidentally" misplaces some of your perks or experience points this week. :reddevil:

My biggest one is find people doing the same thing you are! I've met so many lovely people on this forum and I love the support network that I've got here! When I slip up and don't post for a few days it is great coming here and seeing people telling me to get my ass back on the wagon!

I was kidding and had some fun doing it. I really don't mind eating fish I just don't like the smell while it is cooking! But thinks to you I had an incline walk this morning. up the hill where I live. 35 minute walk 15min. stretches. Every Time a dog barked at me I was thinking of you!, lol. I had to make two dogs go back to their porch. They ran my little dog back home.

If you misplace my perks I will come through this computer and pull your ears! Thanks again for the hard word you put into these challenges, I do appreciate it! :hug2:

Not necessarily weight loss, but a good rule in general to live by:
Your worth as a person is not defined by your weight. Don't rely on losing weight to "make you happy". Because you can be happy at any size. If you weren't happy before you lost the weight, chances are good that you won't be happy after.

Rule 1: WALK! why? because its easy to stick to and burn calories.
Rule 2: Water... Drink it.
Rule 3: keep away from the buffet.

Well we could just go once to the buffet ....Ky Fried Chicken...
but don't eat the skin of the chicken. 1 plate of food would cause me about 15 points. I have done this once or twice:seeya:

I saw a quote on this site that went something like this, "You don't drown by falling in the water...you drown by staying in it."
