Restart!

Heya all.
I need some help on exercises that can be done in the gym to get me back to scratch.
In december while out at sea I was hit in the head. 2 operations, one plate put in the side of head and a bunch of other injuries later I am trying to get back into a normal lifestyle. I could easily fork out the $$$ to have a personal trainer at a local gym to watch me and tell me what i should be doing. But my mrs works at the local Hospital which has a staff facilities and gym building which would rival any of the local gyms, the only problem is there is no trainer there. Its just all the equipment I could want.
I went into the gym a couple of days ago and had half an hour on the bike and doing some light weights which has just opened my eyes to the fact if I dont get something specific put into a workout routine then I am going to be using equipment here and there willy nilly and not really concentrating on anything specific.
Because of the head injury I tire very quickly so I cant do hardcore works outs that would help me lose weight i put on and get fitness and strength back up. Some help with short build up workouts would be much appreaciated.
My old flatmate a few years ago was a body builder so I would spot him on his heavy part of work out then go onto my own fitness workout afterwards. So I arent a stranger to gyms. Its been a few years since i was in a gym for the workout but I need it! After being laid up for the last 3 months I have piled on a bunch of kilos which need to come off as well.
I also have an alterior motive as well! I am a very keen motorsport competitor as co-driver and a driver which has had to be put on hold as well as putting the rally car Im building on hold as well. Motorsport can be very demanding on the body, especially on the neck muscles from all the high speed side to side movements of the head. As can be understood!
So I guess what i really need is some help on putting together a few workouts!
All help is appreaciated

Sorry to hear about the head injury. A lot depends on your actual condition right now and whether or not you have any special considerations from the trauma. (ie: Motor or coordination problems?)

If you have nothing that needs to be considered and you can jump right into something, there's a great workout plan posted in the forum here to get you started. http://training.fitness.com/weight-loss/simple-badass-fat-loss-program-52270.html

So that's something to go off of, and you can always modify or create your own new workout as well if you choose, but starting point is vital. Also bomb over to this topic with technique tips: http://training.fitness.com/weight-training/technique-articles-24334.html

And not to diss bodybuilders, but if your goal is optimal health and function, then that type of routine is not for you.

Lastly, if you DO happen to have special considerations with your condition that need addressing, unfortunately, you will need to find a personal trainer or someone else who can help you. I would not recommend trying to get someone to make a plan for you online in that case. If you want to stay in the gym, though, a lot of personal trainers work independently, separate from gyms, and will meet you at your chosen location (as long as you pay for any fee that they might need to enter).

Thanks mate
I have no special requirements for my abilities! Apart from the ongoing head issues! I get tired quite quickly and easily. I had a half hour session 2 days ago where half was spent on the bike and i have been tired the last couple of days, not from muscles but the head. Im also only using one eye because of damage to the nerve that operates the eyebrow and the pupil isnt dilating so i only use 1 eye but im mobile!
Yea, bodybuilding wasnt for me! I went to a competition with him to watch and see what goes on. Im not into that stand and pose thing. I quite liked the mr fitness type thing they used to do because it more strength and movement!
Its just time for me now. I have to sit back and wait to see how it goes.
