Hello everyone!

My name is Ravleen and I am a Registered Dietitian, specializing in weight loss for women.

I attended the FitExpo here in Sacramento, CA yesterday. I was completely disappointed in the advice that business owners were giving to their audiences. Meal replacers, weight loss shakes, fat burning supplements... all of these things do NOT work and do NOT help you make lifestyle changes.

It's important to find a healthy relationship with food. Look at your current diet. If you are eating something on your weight loss journey that you can't eat forever, why start in the first place?

With the continuous rise in obesity and associated co-morbidities, it's time to make a change, a change that is realistic and sustainable.

I will do my best uploading helpful worksheets and tools that you can use to help with your weight loss goals. Being a part of this community is a great first step. Support is one of the most important ingredients for weight loss!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I am always here to help and to support you!

I am trying to follow the way of eating from the Addictocarb book. I do not call it a diet but a better way to eat. Are you familiar with the principles of the book? If so what do you think?

I just looked it up now. I'm guessing your replacing some of the addictive carbs with healthier options. This is a good idea to improve your overall diet but personally I can't even eliminate chocolate and ice cream from my diet. Denial and deprivation leads to binge eating and weight gain. If it's tough to eat these foods in moderation because you love them so much, find a way to eat them in a healthier state. For example, I love baked goods. But because they are so calorie dense, I can't really eat them every single day. What I can do is alter a recipe to make them healthier, with less calories (sugar, fat), and more nutrients.
At the end of the day, no matter what diet you follow, make it fit into your lifestyle. It's perfectly okay to have some things in the addictocarb diet to work for you and other things not work so well for you. We're all meant to have individualized diets because our preferences differ.
Hope this helps!

I'm reading this as I eat a whole cup of ice cream :) but it's a no milk no dairy no sugar vegan ice cream. I know it sound disgusting but after a couple of
Months with out sugar, you learn to love the taste of this "thing"

Thanks for being here to help

How wonderful of you to make your expertise available here. Do you recommend three servings of dairy daily as necessary for calcium intake for women? And what about protein. Would one serving a day of meat and a handful of nuts a day along with those dairy servings be sufficient for the average person?

No problem at all!

YES! The new dietary guidelines recommend that adults get at least 3 servings of dairy per day. This can be milk, yogurt, cheese, or also vegetables such as broccoli or leafy green vegetables (high sources of calcium).

For protein, it depends on how much you weigh. The RDA is set at 0.8 g/kg. It's usually rare to not be consuming enough protein throughout the day. Based upon 3 servings, some meat, and a handful of nuts- this sounds like sufficient enough! :)
