reclaiming my body from NF

im 17 years old and i have just gotten off an injury that kept me off my feet for 2 years. what originally started off as a fairly serious ligament tear in my ankle, turned into a life threatening infection, NF (necrotizing fasciitis). im not going to go into details, but i went into septic shock twice and the doctors almost removed my foot. on in the down time i had after, i got really depressed and started eating like there was no tomorrow. i gained a total of 55 lbs (but grew 1-1.5 inches) and eventually got a pretty good size belly on me. i went from a 32" waistline to a 38" over a period of a year and now im on the journey to get my weight back down. i at one time had a six pack and want to get that again. in the past 18 days, i have lost 10 lbs. i have started a diet, and i am working out 1 hour and 20 minutes every day. 20 minutes on the stair master and 1 hour of weights. no more late night depression snacks and no more george's hamburgers every week

i started out at 238 and i am now down to 228. I am now down an inch and a half on my waist line. my goal, is to be about a 32-34 inch waistline, and be about 225-230 lbs but with a low bmi. im first trying to get the fat off and get down to as close to 200lbs as i can. then im going to try to build the muscle up on a high protien diet and hopefully, regain my six pack and actually become buff for my very loving and supportive girlfriend. (she is in AMAZING shape to be going out with a guy that looks like me. itl be our 2 year anniversary on Halloween). plus i will be attending Arizona state university next year and i want to look good for summer and college.

i will be posting a progression thread in one of the other forums and i will have a link posted here asap. i will be updating pictures every 1-2 weeks.

here are pix from a week ago:

Its a shame about your injury. With your age and considering your circumstances I'm sure you'll do great.

thanks. im really working at it. im looking to just gain muscle mass mainly and fill the fat in with muscle. i want a six pack again, but idk if thats possible cus of the excess skin i am going to have

At your age, excess skin should not be a huge issue. You should still have the elasticity that will allow it to come back to normal. If you get you BF% numbers where they should be for the 6 pack, teh rst should fall in.

Helluva situation with the infections. How is your mobility now in the ankle?

the mobility is almost 100%. im doing 250-300lb squats and there is no pain (partially due to the severe nerve damage but wth). the bone is a little weak but its almost better. i weighed in again today before my workout and i am down to 227. so far, this is working out great. i did all weights today, just because my knee is hurting from a torn pcl and i didnt want to do the stair master too much.

so far, this workout routine is working out great

With the nerve damage, you lose your body's natural method of warning you when to stop...

I would pay very carefull attention to what you are doing so that you don't do additional damage.

i know. i always look at the scar after i workout. i also check the swelling with a waist measuring tape and i also check the mobility. so far, everything is fine.

i do tho, have a torn pcl. my doc said it would be fine to do anything on just because they cant do the surgery on it until i tear my acl. its been torn for a few months but it does not hurt anymore.

here are some updated pix. i am up to 228 but i am skinnier which is all that matters to me. im trying to get buffer and a lot stronger. the shirt i am wearing is only a large!

what do yall think for just over 3 weeks?

ive upped my weight training to 1 full hour and ive been doing 20 minutes on the stairmaster going a total of just under 2 miles each session.

Good call! You want to make sure you get the cardio in also. Spot reduction is a myth, so if you want the six pack, ya gotta ditch the BF%.

Just for grins, ever looked into HIIT? I do it about once a week. It kills me to do more right now, but it makes a noticeable difference in my cardio workouts afterwards.

High Intensity Interval Training. Can be done on virtually any kind of cardio equipment or by running etc.

There are some good descriptions on this site as well as out on the net. The short description is this; warm up for a few minutes, Then drop the hammer and bring heart rate up to 85%-90% for a short period, maybe 20 - 30 seconds, then drop the speed back down to recover for a period about twice as long as the max effort period. Repeat the cycle for a total of about 10 to 15 minutes and cool down.

I'm oversimplifying it. Google around or search the site for better descriptions. Bottom line there is a whole science behind what it does to your body in terms of raising metablic rates, burning fat and increasing VO2 max.

oh like wind sprints and hurricanes. i currently do 3 sets of wind sprints every other day on my hs football field. like suicides, not just up and back.
