Hey people,

I am a 17 y/o male, 6 foot 2" approx, 240lbs so bmi of ~30

I really want to lose weight but just cant motivate myself!

I have had bouts where I have been determined to lose weight, but I want to lose 4 stone which seems so much.

I have a treadmill in the house as well.

I eat excessively, dont exercise, and I think this is my downfall. I dont eat particularly unhealthily, just too much, and no exercise.

I see other people who are much bigger than me and I know I dont want to end up like them, I want to be able to sit without feeling my stomach bulging out, as stupid as that sounds! lol

so, any advice?

I am starting med school this year as well and dont want to be a fat medic. lol

also, will I have loose skin when I lose weight? Most of my weight is on my thighs and stomach. I know central obesity is the most dangerous type!

You have to find something solid to look forward to; what will you enjoy most when you lose all that flab? For me it's being in a bathing suit and not thinking twice about who sees my body. Not worrying when I sit down that those rolls will bulge out. I've always been self conscious and secretly wishing I was a mind reader so I knew what people thought of me. Lately it's gotten better with my age - I'm a teen too.

I also believe that you should make a fitness goal that will directly help your weight loss. If you're inactive, this should be easy! Just run a mile as fast as you can, and try to do it faster next time. I think my mile time is pitiful, like 18 minutes or something. I'm getting into biking, I want to be able to ride 35 miles in one day and have it be a piece of cake. :) You bet that will make your thighs smooth as ice! :D Just things like that. Hope it makes sense.

THanks saladmuncher!!

I'd just like to look slim amd smart and not have a double chin loll

ANYWAY, I finally got off my backside and got on the treadmill today.
I managed to do 3.25 miles in an hour, and burned 400 calories, which really isn't great but I hope to gradually improve.

I got off the treadmill five minutes ago and stretched. I didnt feel exhausted or particularly tired, but better I guess, a bit more energetic and cheerier.

The problem with me is that I may go on the treadmill for a few days or have a bout of motivation for a week or 2 then it goes all downhill. E.g. If I overeat one day i get annoyed at myself and dont see the point of exercising so its kind of like a cycle.

I also get bored on the treadmill, I had music on today and it was ok but still pretty boring. I do have a tv in the same room but find it difficult to focus on the tv whilst jogging or walking fast.

Any advice and tips would be useful and much appreciated!

400 calories is great!!

Like many people say, and i agree, the fight with flab is definitely a kitchen war. Exercise is just part of the battle. Getting yourself on a healthy eating plan is the way to go.

It takes a while though. It's taken be months to tweak my diet and it's still not perfect.

Thanks, thought so.
i got lots if dark green leaves yesterday, well a leaf salad, and it tastes surprisingly good with a bit of grilled chicken :) and some low fat thousand island.

Its quite expensive to eat healthy imo cos before It would be a £1 pizza from farmfoods or asda. Anyway, im gonna try to stick to healthy stuff.

Although last night i ate a cookie :blush5: they were in front of me and it was there one minute then gone the next lol, doesnt help when my younger brother buys lots if fattening foods.

I want to lose as much weight as possible before starting uni so i dont have months, its gna b hard to eat a balanced diet there, :svengo:

I understand. The pressure and oppurtunity to eat unhealthy is always there. It just depends what you want more i guess. Allow yourself to cheat and have a cheat day. Set it to somthing like a friday but if you lapse on a wednesday for example, just continue on and use your friday as a healthy day.

Eating healthy doesn't have to be expensive though. I am a fan of the cook in bulk and eat fresh practices. I normally cook a load of healthy stuff on a sunday and freeze it for easy of use. I eat at least one chicken breast a day so buying a pack of 6 is less expensive and they can be frozen.

I just weigh up my dream body VS cost VS temptation and my dreams always come out on top.

Good Luck!!

Been eating very little or no carbs. Lost 3lbs in past 4 days but obviously weight fluctuates, but that is the range as to say (highest-lowest).

I did slip up a couple of times, once with a cookie and another night with pizza and chips from the takeaway, which i didnt order but we were force fed at relative's house. Loll

I am guessing weight loss tends to be fastest at first?

I'm quite enjoying it, i feel happier and more energetic. Salad is surprisingly filling :)

Yeh weight loss normally starts off at hyperspeed due to the loss of retained water. It can be a bit of a pain when you stop losing it so fast and you think you're doing something wrong.

A cookie is not something to get in a fuss over and i personally wouldn't even call it a slip. You could eat it, work out how much calories are in it and cut down on other stuff the rest of the day. The takeaway will be another story lol If i eat takeaways to be polite on nights out i just eat a little and say i'm full. Its not lying as i am usually full lol

You seem to be enjoying it so keep it up!! :D
It gets even easier.

Yh, its quite annoying. Wish weight loss rate increased.

Why do we lose water? I dont understand?

Not an expert and i dont totally know. But, I THINK it's because we don't drink enough water and like fat our body retains it for later, just in case.

I read up, apparently at first when our calorie intake decreases, our body starts using muscle protein for energy, and this protein actually holds water, but once our body adapts it starts using fat stores more.

I could be talking crap. Lol

I know just what you're saying! I'm an 18 Y/O Male, 5'6", and right now i weight 230 lbs. I've been losing weight for some time now and am down over 50 lbs. The biggest issue for me was my diet, not exercise. As shorty2oo5 said, it's a kitchen war. By decreasing my caloric intake, the weight has fallen off. Since you and I are both younger males, our metabolic rates are quite high, and decreasing caloric intake will definitely make an improvement!

So while it takes some time to get your diet to where you want it to be, and you'll definitely feel many cravings at the beginning, per my experience once you get your diet figured out and can stick to it, everything else will just kind of fall into place! Good luck to you my friend!
