Ready to start losing weight

Hi everyone :) For a lot of years I've been comfortably eating the foods I want and happily mostly using my computer/watching TV while saying I'll diet and exercise when I'm ready and I don't have other stuff that's more of a priority for me. Well now is finally the time. I'm 20, 5'5 and 170 lb and have been dieting since Sunday in hopes of being in the 130-140 range. I started exercising yesterday for the first time (was sick this weekend/tennis plans aborted), went out for a long walk/run while listening to music and it felt great. Am hoping to play some tennis as much as I can because I like having fun with a specific competitive purpose while exercising. Played some tennis today with my mom and that was a lot of fun. I'm not doing a specific diet plan, just trying to eat healthier, eat more fruit (love them!) and vegetables, control portion size and count calories to be sure I'm not eating too much.

I'm feeling really motivated right now, for one to prove I was right when I said I could start eating healthy/exercising and because I really do want to be healthy, to not have so much of a belly, to be able to run without heavy breathing and having to stop, to feel really happy with with how I look for myself and for romantic relationships, and to accomplish something I've always wanted to do as I have so many youthful years to enjoy. I'm hoping it'll last but who knows. So far, so good. It's just good to have that feeling of determination and willpower to do this.

I'm living with my parents at the moment which is hard and one of the reasons I've put it off because I'm not really in control of my food choices besides what we have. And I have this weird relationship with my family because they've always been negative about my weight or always urging me to go on a diet or eat foods they like (my mom) and I hate that and it makes me just want to rebel. So I'm trying to keep it secret as much as I can and not make it much of a big deal as I don't usually like to talk about weight much besides online. So I guess I'm writing this up as it'd be nice to have a bit of support. Good luck to everyone else in reaching their goals!

There is no such thing as "diet." You are either living healthy or not. If you eat/drink generally healthy things and get up and out often, your body will become healthier. Period. Most people don't understand this. This is not a temporary stretch to achieve your goal - it is a permanent change to your life.

Think about it.

And read the stickies.

It's awesome that you are motivated, but that motivation is easily lost once you slide off track. But a healthy life is worth so much more than that cheeseburger. haha.
