rate my diet....advise me

Ok, i'm trying to change my diet so that i dun get too much refined carb and cut down on my meal portions in order to stay in shape. Today is my first day i started, please advise me..... here's wat i ate today :

5:30am Breakfast : -2 slices of low calorie, low fat bread
-a slice of high calcium cheese
-a small bottle of cultured milk drink

11:30am Lunch : (went to mcdonalds coz school canteen closed)
- 4 pieces fish mcdippers (fish fillet nugget)
- 1 small order of fries
- 1 small ribena (blackcurrant juice)

6:30pm Dinner : -half bowl (like normal cereal bowl) of rice
-half bowl of stir-fry cabbage mixed with some carrots
-palm sized microwaved mackerel, no oil added
-a bowl of onion and carrot soup
-a small pear

well, in my opinion, i think i ate too much calories.... any advise?

Just by looking at it, I'd recommend the following:

Switch from bread to oatmeal or some equivalent.
Stay away from the fries and deep fried stuff

Otherwise the rest looks fine... Now that I've said all that, I just wanted to say that I'm not sure what average weight/height for your age is, but I'd stay in the ball park of about 1000 - 1200 calories/day depending on your metabolism and activity level. (This is a rough estimate)

i know oatmeal is good, but it has a lot of calories.....
i eat oatmeal seldomly, when i prepare, i'll have 3 tablespoon of oatmeal cooked with some water and brown sugar.
Do you think it's ok if i eat it oftenly? I'm afraid the calories will make me fat

quarternut, you're raising a good point about calories. Considering that I'm not sitting down with you and developing a nutritional plan, I'm left working sorta in the dark.

When you get a chance, look at the nutritional information from your 2 slices of bread. If you're really worried about calories I would substitute your bread calories for oatmeal calories. 1/2 cup cooked oatmeal is about 30g of carbs. So if you're bread is about 15g of carbs, just eat a 1/4 of oatmeal.

Btw, I need to point this out... Calories don't make you "fat"... your diet and your activity level are what lead to obesity (and sometime genetics). So, just make sure to watch what you eat and stay active. Good luck to you!

p.s. and btw, I would say that your lunch was more calories then both your breakfast and dinner combined. So if you're really worried about eating right, stay away from friend foods. Do baked potatoes or rice instead of french fries.

right, the amount of calories in one food does not cause you trouble. oats are a great food. good carbs and fiber.

its really more about at the end of the day what you ate and what you burned off to put it in simple terms

okay, thanks guys.... for ur useful advises,
by the way, i seldomly eat fast food/fried food.... the reason i went to mcdonalds is because the school canteen was closed, and there was nothing to eat othere than mcdonalds.....furthermore, i was in a hurry cause i'm seating for an exam, lol
well.... now i would take on a better diet and lifestyle....thanks ^_^

Bring some low carb and/or protien bars to school. They can save you from having to eat fast food. Beef jerky and trail mix will buy to more time till you can get to a good meal too.
