Ran my first 5k today

Over the past 4 weeks I've been training for my first marathon so when news of a local 5k came to my attention I decided to do it. There were about 40 participants of all ages. I came in 4th overall with a time of 19:57 (The college cross country team was out of town so it gave me a chance to look good. My friend runs a low 15, and I'm sure the rest of the team runs about the same :drooling1:). It was my first ever race so I wasn't really sure what pace to run at. I could have shaved a good minute or two off my time probably but I had no idea where I was on the course and didn't want to over do it considering I have to run 7 miles tomorrow. Anyways, it was a lot of fun and I will be looking for more in the area.

The funniest thing about the race was a guy that I saw smoking right before the race. At the beginning of the race, he was in first place. Around the 7 minute marker, he took a right instead of following the path. I asked him where he was going and he replied, "Man I'm out... I shouldn't have eaten that subway." When I crossed the finish line, there he was. When he saw me he made some dumb remark about how he had been there for 5 minutes. Shortly after he lit up another cigarette. We all got a kick out of that.

Nice work! I'm running my 1st 5k in over a year next weekend, keep at it running is so satisfying when your done.

Thanks for the support! Yeah, I've decided to create a group called R.A.C.S. (runners against cigarette smoke). So far the logo consists of either smoking deer antlers or... well something else :costumed2:
