Racquet Sport Injuries

Hi,

I play squash 2 to 3 times a week with my parents and badminton 1 to 2 times a week.

But my dad always seems to get knee injuries when playing fast paced.

Now I know everyone's going to suggest to slow down the game, but we're just too competitive.

Does anyone know how to prevent this or make it better when it does happen.

Please any advice, as we don't want to stop playing, we like it too much.

Sudden sports injuries, including cuts and sprains, are usually caused by accidents, such as a sudden impact or an awkward movement. These types of spontaneous injury can be difficult to avoid. However, you can minimise the damage that a sudden injury can cause by wearing appropriate safety equipment, such as a helmet while skiing or snowboarding or shin pads while playing football

This is just minor and common problem. So there is nothing to worry about that. Here are the 10 tips for your dad as well as you also so that you would not face this type of knee problem in future:

• Try to use an over the counter pain reliever or drink an all natural anti inflammatory beverage like cherry juice to immediately relieve knee pain.

• Give your body adequate time to recover after intense exercise/game. Try exercising on alternative days to give your joints and ligaments enough time to repair themselves.

• Cross train to prevent knee pain. Engage in different exercise/game on alternate days to give your knees a rest from your usual sports routine.

• Take Glucosamine and Chondroitin capsules to relieve and prevent achy joints and knees. This natural joint supplement is safely being used by athletes, non-athletes and even pets to lubricate the joints.

• Get daily doses Vitamin D and calcium. Many athletes can easily become deficient in these crucial vitamins and deficiency can impair joint health. Drink lots f milk; eat cheeses and foods high in Vitamins D and calcium to reduce knee pain and discomfort.

• Correct your posture. Incorrect posture while working out can place wear and tear on your knees.

• Wear appropriate shoes while exercising. Get shoes that are designed for the specific sports you are playing.

• Wear a knee brace. Knee braces will give your painful knee the support it needs until it heals. Wear your knee braces while exercising to prevent further injury and discomfort.

These are just the simple tips your father and you may follow. But make an appointment to see a doctor if knee pain does not go away within 2 weeks.
