Rachel Ray??

I had never heard of her until a month or two ago when my sister said something about how awesome she was, and that she made quick healthy recipes. I kinda forgot about it until yesterday when i saw one of her shows. I then went onto foodnetwork.com, and printed out a bunch of her recipes.

It just now occurred to me...is she really that healthy? Most of her recipes dont seem unhealthy at all, so i am assuming yes.

Anyone else have any thoughts on her? (and i mean towards her recipes, cause when i was searching for her, i came across a lot of attacks on her! I dont get why! i think she is really cute :p )

thanks :)

I watched her when she first went on air.. she was very pretty.. still is..but people talk cause she has gained a decent amount of weight compared from before.

IMO I think she does make SOME healthy recipes, but she is not known for making healthy just making easy 30 minutes meals. If you see a couple of her shows you'll soon realize her fast 30 minute meals will actually take close to hour or 2. She deals with lots of meats and pasta's. Everything is usally precooked so the time she makes the sauce, she pulls the pasta from under, and garlic bread outta the oven. Sometimes the easier faster meals contain the most unhealthy ingredients of it all. She also has that 40$ dollars a day, but thats her just walking around to a new distination spending 40$ for the day on food... also leaves like 2 dollars tips on a 20$ meal.. so she is a cheapass

Not true. Everything she prepares on her show is not just like, "here is a finished version, see?" Like Emeril or whathave you. Ray cooks everything right there on the spot, although she does often use store bought doughs. She makes it an effort to wash the vegetables prior to cooking, and that's a big thing right there.

Her meals aren't always healthy as she uses a lot of cheese, butter, processed meats, sugar, etc.

She was definately hotter when she was just starting out. Then she entered this phase where she was getting plump, but was still hot. Now she's just kinda fat, but pretty. Finally, she got married.

I thought the plumping phase happens during marriage? :p

hahaha, i think she is a healthy plump!

so basically, if i just use some brainpower, i should be able to tell if its healthy, right?

i mean, its not like she is purposely making fatty foods like those 2 fat chefs (i cant remember what the show is called) where they use like 1 pound of butter whenever possible, lol

well, ill look through the recipes i printed out...some look really yummy :p

Huh? Forty dollars a day for food is a lot of money!

For three meals and sometimes a snack? I wouldn't say so, especially in the tourist-y places, which is where she frequents. She manages to sometimes find good deals, but for the most part she finds ****ty, overpriced foods. And it's still her job to kiss the ass of where ever she is eating, ahahahahhaa

You have to remember that Rachel's whole take on food is that it should be healthier and easier than takeout... but remember that healthier than takeout includes almost every homemade recipe you can find. I love her recipes, really, but she uses way too much bacon, fat and oil for me to eat her stuff every day. It's quick... and with a few tweaks would be ultra healthy (I like the way she uses a lot of produce, but she also uses a LOT of meat). Use your judgement, really...
oh, and use whole grain alternatives for the grains in her recipes- they don't usually have enough fiber, and she focuses on "white" grains like bread and pasta.

Well, I can tell you from being a former chef that Rachel Ray and Emeril (who I do like) and all the other TV cooks do not do their own prep so 30 minute meals are not a reality for these people, unless they can make them on TV in about 10 minutes or less. The prep takes the rest of the time. I watched Rachel Ray once and she annoyed the living crap out of me. All I could think about during the show was finding the remote or sticking a gun my mouth (or better yet her mouth) and I am not a violent person. The only reason I couldn't find the remote was I was in a doctors office. I'm so tired of these over-zealous people who think they have to yell and be peppy all the time (she's the equivalent of Tony Little in my book). I was, however, very amused to see she irritated and offended Oprah. Not that it made me like her any but it was amusing. Anyway, let's face it, if these people did their own prep work like we have to, their shows would be 2+ hours. And the one time I saw her, she didn't cook anything healthy. It kind of started out that way but after she got done with the butter and bacon and all that, it was a heart attack waiting to happen. And this comes from a guy who loves butter and bacon and all that. I'm just at the point in my life that I know I can't have that all the time. Or even very often at all.

That's just my opinion. And I think we all know about opinions...
