quick question on apple's and others

I was told to eat an apple by itself and nothing else because the sugars it has will turn what ever else you digest into something bad. If that is crazy please forgive my ignorance in advance. I also was told you shouldnt eat your protein with your carbs? I have a great recipe of putting beef tips, spuds, onion soup mix and brown gravy in the crock pot. Is it really bad to eat steak with spuds?

I think whoever gave you that advice was very confused.....

You should eat protein with everything. It's fats and carbs that you shouldn't eat together. So the steak and potatoes is no-go. Others are PB&J, ice cream, hamburgers, etc.

and the apples?

and what about having to eat the apples with nothing else. Like if I was to eat something and have the apple as a desert?

All of your meals should be relatively the same size, with a serving of protein with each. I do not believe in naming meals "lunch," "dinner," "dessert" etc. They are meals #1-6, or #1-5, etc.

An apple and a source of protein isn't a full meal... you could have some protein (chicken, maybe) and an apple cut-up in a bowl of oatmeal. I know it seems weird to people, beginners especially, to be eating all the protein, and all the meals, but you'll be better off for it. My "dessert" (meal #6) is one grilled chicken breast, 1/3 cup raspberries, and 1 oz. walnuts (pro+fat meal; the 1/3 cup raspberries have minimal carbs). I like to have the raspberries then because they are sooooo sweet!

well...if fat and carbs are a no-no, then what about natty pb? and about that, what is that oil at the top of the jar???

The carbs in natty PB are minimal. As long as the carbs are under 10g total for the meal, and there's sufficient fat and protein, then some carbs are okay. Like fibrous vegetables.

The oil is the peanut oil. Commercial PB's, like Jif, etc., use the partially-hydrogenated oils and preservatives to prevent the oil from seperating. But we don't want those (trans fats), so the oil rises. You just have to stir it before consuming.

honest truth is the fats/carb deal is not necessary. you can go ahead and seperate them of course but dont feel that you have to. :)

at the time i put that we could type in whatever we wanted under our user names. then their was an update or something and we cant do that anymore so now i'm stuck with it. :(

After reading all the posts about PB, I found myself sitting on the couch with a big spoon of chunk and a glass of milk. Let's make sure we don't start any discussions about cake and ice cream, huh?!

how about using the peanut butter as a dip for the apple? you could slice the apple into dippable pieces before u sit down and eat....wow i'm so trying that.

a c t u a l l y.......

there is a truth behind the not eating carbs and proteins together. the reason behind it is to do with digestion and wanting to lose weight (fat).

if you look up "food combining" in google some info might come up but i'll give a brief explanation here:

in food combining, all food is split into 4 groups:

group 1: Protein
group 2: Carbs
group 3: Salads, non-starchy veg, roots, seeds, nuts
group 4: Fruit

the 'law' of food combining in order to ease digestion and aid fat loss is as such:

never eat group 1 and 2 together
eat group 1 and 3 together freely
eat group 2 and 3 together freely
eat group 4 on its own!

Reasons? Here we go:

Proteins digest slowly and carbs digest quickly. They both also use different digestive enzymes to each other. When they are eaten together the different enzymes conflict with each other and neutralise each other so the food does not get digested properly. This essentially means the food rots inside the gut which leads to gas, bloating, indigestion, heart burn etc etc

Fruit! Fruit digests the fastest! So when you eat fruit after a meal it gets stuck behind all the other food and just sits there rotting and fermenting, not getting digested properly. So, it's better to eat fruit on its own and on an empty stomach if possible. Best time to eat fruit is in the morning.

Essentially, proper food combining means proper digestion of food and ensures you are getting maximum absorbption of all its nutrients. It is known to be effective in weight loss too.

So there you are. Just when you thought you had the hang of all this healthy eating malarky, someone like me comes along :D

i have heard of not doing protein and carbs together but there's no need for it.

In order to optimize digestion and weight loss, you should avoid eating certain foods as part of the same meal. For example, you should not eat carbohydrates with proteins. Some versions advocate eating only fruit or fruit juices before noon. A typical food-combining diet lasts for 5 weeks, although some versions are indefinite.

There is no hard scientific evidence to support food-combining diets. The idea that weight loss becomes more likely if you separate certain foods, is completely without foundation.

I have never, never heard of not eating protein & carbs together. They are the two essential nutrients for post work-out, especially. I don't appreciate your information.

well, you can be closed-minded and dismiss it immediately as you have done or actually read up on it and THEN form an opinion on it.

there are a whole lot of different theories out there but for some reason you appear to think that what you know and believe is the absolute truth. interesting.
