Questions on a couple of foods

Ok im trying out this clean diet thing. Im 17, 6', 170 pounds. Within the last year i have lost about 40 pounds on atkins, but i couldnt take it anymore and i was starting to lose a lot of muscle mass. I am currently eating 6-7 small meals a day, trying only to eat clean foods and get lots of protein. Im also working out for 30 mins to an hour every other day. I am mainly eating carrots, tuna, bananas, lettuce, egg whites, and cottage cheese. My family grills a lot so i am wondering, should i be staying away from hamburgers? We get the meat we grill by the quarter cow, so it isnt processed or filled with any thing. Is dairy ok? I drink skim milk and i like to eat a lot of cheese. I have already lost a few pounds after about a week of this, but i need some more ideas of simple and healthy foods. Finally, i need some ideas on things to do with egg whites and tuna, because they are kind of bland by themselves =(

The meat in the hamburgers is fine, depending on the diet you have chosen depends on whether or not the bun is ok. Cheese is fine as is a moderate ammount of dairy.

One thing I have implemented is the "I don't know if this is ok to eat, so I eat it in small ammounts plan" where instead of eating a whole serving, I eat only a half serving and then find out later if it is ok or not.

The biggest key is moderation and serving sizes. Nobody got fat from eating the right serving sizes.

Excellent advice, McCarley

About the hamburgers - be sure the meat is as lean as possible. Or have your parents grill up a bunch of chicken breasts and have chicken sandwiches instead.

Cheese can be included in a clean diet, but in moderation - and only hard cheeses. Soft cheeses shouldn't be in a diet set-up for fat loss.

Fresh salsa is really tasty with some scrambled egg whites. I like my tuna with celery, a lot of lemon juice and a lot of red onion. Maybe check the recipe section - there may be some ideas there.

As a kid, my dad would have us eat salad with tuna in it....a practice I have continued to these days. I use a mix of leafy greens, with carrots, brocolli, tomoto and a can of solid white tuna (not albacore) and mix with my own blend of olive oil, cider vinegar, splenda and fresh oregano....

As far as meat, spock & mc are right.... I use 93% ground sirlion on my grill as well as my chicken and fish - my wife & kids like the fact that I grill fish outside all year - even in cold coastal NH :)

The only downside is that the super lean stuff tends to be more expensive.

Can you imagine, then, how un-lean fast food meats must be if they're so cheap? ;)
