Questions about Excercises

Hey everyone,
I just had some questions about some exercises i can do and when i can do them. I just recently went and bought a couple new additions to my home gym (just started it, work in progress). I bought a generic ab-roller that i wanna start using and a pull up bar for my doorway. The abroller didnt come with any instructions or booklet to give the variety of exercises that can be done on it besides a basic crunch. Also, with the pull up bar, when do ya suggest i do that and is there any variations to work different body parts when using a bar like that? I goto the gym 3x a week tuesday/friday/sunday, i was told not to use the pullup bar on days i do upper body or the day after so i give my muscles time to rest and rebuild. Any advice would greatly help me out. Thanks all
 
I wish I was short enough, or had tall enough doors to be able to use a pull up bar over a doorway... as it is, I can sit on the floor and grab hold of the top of the doorways.

I too have heard not to work out the same muscles the day (specifically I have heard 48hrs) after, but I would think doing it the same day, such as in the morning before working out or something, would be fine. Someone else will probably know better than I though.
