Questions about being sore...

Hey there,
So I just started going to the gym this week and eating much healthier. And of course (no surprise)...my body is super sore (never really worked out before). Do you guys reccomend any type of asprin or whatnot to help relieve some of the pain. I take a hot bath sometimes and that helps. Also, how long will it take to where i can work out and not feel nearly as sore (going to the gym 4-5 times a week). Thanks for any input!

I don't workout more than 3 times a week when i'm starting up again. And i only do 1 set per excercise and workup over a few weeks.

The soreness has something to do with latic acid building up i think, i'm sure someone will know more about that.

It should take a few weeks to stop getting really sore usually.

i believe that due to weights being an anaerobic exercise....lactic acid builds up in the muscle fibres. To prevent this you should do warm up sets and stretch. Also get a sports massage once in a while. Those things hurt! but you wake up in the morning feeling like spaghetti.

newf is right. You are probably working to hard for starting out. 3 days a week and one set per exercise is fine to start out.

Try stretching after your workout, this can help to remove some of the lactic build-up.

I dig Ibuprofen (only if I MUST use it). If you can avoid it, suck-it-up and take the pain... It will get better soon.

The most important key is to stick with working out to avoid injury and more soreness (pain).

It will get better!

Pain means it's working :) I almost like it better if it hurts the next day or two! Otherwise I feel like I didn't work out hard enough.

A couple of supplementation options:
+ L-Glutamine - very key in muscle repair
+ Sportlegs - great new supplement that carries lactic acid away from the muscle and creates additional muscular energy
