Question

right now im on a schedual of body work (muscle build) on mon, wed, fri and major track on tues and thurs

my question is can someone list me everything possible that can reduce muscle?

im kinda chubby right now, trying to gain muscle/strength at the same time as toning and getting cut

im not really a fitness guy but i think i heard that cardio makes u lose muscle? so thats why i need a list of things that may make me loose muscles (like everything u can think of) so i can stay away from it

well becuase i did it.... and my arms got from buff to small . Maybe becuase it makes you sweat more...... which cuases that part of the body to lose more weight. I may be wrong but it worked on me.

Running or other forms of cardiovascular do NOT make you lose muscle. What can happen is if you are on a training regimen that involves a lot of running or other cardio work, and you lift heavy, but are on a fat cutting diet, your body will not be able to repair and build up your muscles after workouts, because you are not providing it with the necessary nutrients. Running alone will not negatively affect your lean mass. That's a myth.

On another note, I'm surprised that you haven't heard this before, but you absolutely CANNOT effectively bulk and cut at the same time. They are mutually exclusive. You will end up either not gaining much lean mass, or not losing any fat. You need to eat a bunch to bulk up muscle, and you need to lower what you eat to lose fat. It's not possible to do both at the same time. You need to focus on first one, then the other. Generally, you can cycle between bulking and lifting--bulk in the colder months, and cut when you are going to want to look good for the warmer months. Just assess your health and appearance, and figure out for yourself what your primary goal is, and work towards it. As an aside, while on a muscle building diet you can lose some fat, (not as effectively as cutting), you will not be able to gain any lean mass when cutting.

Woah, thanks gbpackerfan. That's useful tips.

And here I was afraid of going running because it would make me lose muscle. According to you, and to logic, it only happens if you don't have the components necessary to keep your body moving, in which case the body will take them from your muscle.

So, if you're on no diet and eat well enough, this shouldn't happen.

That's a relief, since I want to develop my cardio.

My suggestion would just be to tone up. Do more reps and less weight. Also, do a lot of cardio. Running in a sweater causes you to sweat more because your body is trying to cool itself down, and you lose water weight because of this. But things like running, and jump roping are a couple of the best cardio workouts.
