question on cutting + creatine

Hi there

I've been reading these posts for the last couple of months, basically just using the search thing to find all the info I needed but so far no one has really answered this question directly enough for me...

I am 22, 5'11" and weigh about 167 lbs. I'm trying to get to the "Ryan Reynolds" physique ie. toned and defined but not overly massive. I'm currently going to the gym between 2 and 3 times a week doing free weights and a half hour of either biking or running (I prefer running but I get tired very quickly). My main cause for concern is my stomach at the moment as I have a fairly big spare tire as well as a bit of fat on my chest but none in between, which I find kinda weird.

Anyways, from what I've read you shouldn't go on creatine if you're trying to lose body fat... BUT the only real way to lose body fat (apart from cardio) is to increase your basal metabolism ie. increase your muscle mass THUS wouldn't going on creatine and gaining more muscle mass in turn burn more calories and thus burn more fat than you normally would? Also, wouldn't the increase in stamina from creatine mean I could effectively run for longer periods of time, thus burning even more fat? Please let me know if I have this completely backward.

Also on another note, I find that if I push out my stomach in a certain way the top of my abs are fine but the whole spare tire area feels like there is a huge muscle underneath it, running from side to side. I'll take a picture for anyone that doesn't know what I mean, but is it possible to exercise your abs in order to get them tighter and flatter and not bigger? Especially around this area as this is what I need to work on.

Thanks guys for all the information so far.

There are 3 key points to loosing weight
1 - diet
2 - burning cals(CV)
3 - speeding up metabolism.

you must do all of them, to get down to a low body fat%.
only when you have a low body fat% will your have a thin layer of fat over your stomach letting your abs show.

Creatine is fine to take any time. Its is used for recovery buy any athleate.

so basicly, you gotta choose between bulking up your muscle 1st, or showing your 6pack.

I would advise bulking 1st

I agree with manoflent. Creatine is fien to take. You need to increase your calories burned. Creatine will help spare any muscle tissue during a "cutting stage". Also, supplement glutamine and BCAAs during dieting.
Typically the body prefers to use the BCAAs first as energy, wasting all your amino acid pool.
BTW: Who is Ryan Reynolds?

lol, umm have u seen blade trinity? Hes like big and shredded in that film. Looks awesome

What about creatine before bed? would it kinda act like caffine and keep u awake or will it help preserve the muscle?

seegs - Thanks for searching before asking. I wish more followed that process. Sounds like you're on the right track.

I agree with the previous posts. Creatine all the time is fine (read: recommended). No need to load. Just take 5g a day.

Tim - Creatine will not keep you awake.

I think you need to do more research on Creatine. Its not a miracle supp. It doesn't help maintain muscle mass.
Creatine is used to help transport energy to the muscles...which in turn gives you the ability to perform better in the gym, thus giving you better results (assuming your workout routine is good, your diet is proper, and you're getting 8 hours of sleep every night).

Some people get creatine bloat, usually in the stomach. I've never had it. Some say creatine makes you store extra water in the muscle cells...I'm not sure I agree with, or want to refute that statement.

A few individuals may find creatine has a stimulant effect...but it's a very small fraction of the minority.

To re-iterate the info already said: don't load on creatine, don't cycle off, take 5g a day, preferably post-workout on the days you train.

Forgot about the bloating...
I've only felt bloated taking creatine with special "transport system" . . . er . . .extra sugar for insulin spike.

Since using a non-sugary creatine with the creapure logo on the label I have not experienced any ill side effects.
