question for you

I have been doing pretty good with my diet and exercise, with the exception of my holidays last week at the lake. I stepped on the scale today and I have gained over 5 pounds. I'm sure this isn't really possible in a week of not making the healthiest choices with my food. I've noticed my feet and ankles swelling at night so my question is - when it is hot outside do you retain fluid? Could this be all this weight gain is? Please help. I'm stressing out.

Hi Bonnie,
I wouldn't stress too much - water retention plays a huge role in the ups and downs of our scales.

There are a lot of influences, your cycle, sodium intake, etc.

Are you on a specific diet plan? Are you counting calories or drinking enough water?

Good luck and just keep plugging away and see where you are next week.

Hi, Bonnie. Don't stress out too much. M2M is right - there are lots of influences to weight gain. What exactly are you eating? You might want to write down everything and count calories. You'd be amazed at how many calories some things have in them when you thought they were OK.

Yes, I tend to retain water during hot weather, but I can also retain water at any time of year. But don't let that stop you from drinking water! You need water to flush out your system. I guess you just have to put up with some water retention every once in awhile.

Hang in there! Good luck!

Weight is devious enough to show up afterwards on your scale. Whether we lose or gain you'll start registering in numbers a week or 2 later sometimes.

If it is water you are retaining cut out everything with sodium/ salt in your diet and exercise more. Try a sauna even. Just anything to sweat it off..

Fear not. If you don't lose your diet motivation and you keep it up nothing can go wrong.

Also as I always say do a small check for food allergies. I found out the hard way.

Good Luck!
Sday~ :D

I would venture a guess that you aren't a) drinking enough water or b) having too much sodium in your diet.

It is most likely just water retention.
