Question for techies

So I go to charge my ipod shuffle today and all of the sudden my computer doesn't recognize it and the light doesn't come on. It won't charge. Any ideas on what the problem could be?
 
I have heard that if they are completely dead you need to charge them through a wall charger rather than through the USB on a PC. I have never had that problem with mine though.
 
Yeah, it wasn't completely dead and I tried all 4 USB ports. It notices something is there, but it doesn't know what. I've used this on this computer for a couple years now.
 
Did you try rebooting the ipod? If it is the same as the nano you can reboot it by holding down the menu button and the center of the circle for a few seconds. You have to be careful not to touch anyplace other than those two areas when trying to reboot it or it won't reboot.
