I have been reading through many of the posts on site and I have a question, is it viable or worthwhile to take whey protein for maintaining muscle in a fat loss or "cut" phase? My goal is to burn as much fat off of my body as possible and maintain the muscle mass that I already have, if I am not mistaken people who diet and such without a proper muscle maintenance routine can risk losing just as much muscle as fat and that is certainly not something I want to do. I lift during the day and do cardio in the evenings and I get quite a bit of protein in my regular diet i.e. chicken, fish, legumes, lean beef...but I always hear about how important whey protein is to a fitness routine, I just want to know if it is worth it to use while in a caloric defecit? Sorry if my wording is a little spacey, thanks for any responses.

Haha.

There's nothing magical about whey powder.

If you're getting adequate protein in your diet from whole foods and lifting weights, I wouldn't concern yourself with whey powder unless you want to.
