Question for others who lost a lot of weight.

Having been overweight since I was a kid it's safe to say I do not have much in the way of memory of what life was like at a normal healthy weight. Much less so at a reasonable level of fitness as well as a normal weight.

So my question to those who have been very overweight and out of shape, and lost it, is the following. Have you noticed a difference in how it feels when you get sick? A cold, a flu, run of the mill illness.

It feels like for myself at this point colds and flu's are so much more mild, don't last as long, I can even sustain my exercise routine without too much trouble with a cold. It's really that much of a night and day difference that I have to ask.

Has this been the observation of anyone else?

Yup. Totally. I was fairly slim until high school, but I've been significantly overweight since then (about 20 years now). After losing a lot of weight, I've found that when I get a cold or whatever, I don't feel nearly as wiped out as I used to. I think part of that is the weight loss and part of that is just that I'm overall healthier - I eat better, I exercise, etc. All of that helps boost immunities.

I was a physical wreck, but not in that way. I got exhausted and all sweaty with the slightest exertion. I wouldn't say I was sickly, though.

I used to sweat up at any sign of movement as well. Just un-boxing stuff, or getting under a desk to work on a computer and I would be rolling with sweat.

Makes me shudder and think of how I would do just about anything to never ever go back. Not that I feel it's going to be a problem. Just saying I would just about rather be dead than go back.

Lack of insulation has been one of the biggest shocks for me. I used to hate hot weather so much now I am the opposite, I am really hoping for a hot summer this year.

This winter has been brutal, I am just freezing all the time. It doesn't help that I work in a place where they like to crank the heat down to like 68 all the time.

I just made it through my first winter without being sick and I attribute that to losing weight, exercising, and eating better.

And I'd have to agree with the tolerance for the cold slowly going away the past few months. Brrrr! But on the upside, tolerance for the heat will go up and I won't start sweating from just standing in 80 degree weather!

nooo my insulation:piggy:

This made me giggle, and I needed that today. I'm not really looking forward to the reduced tolerance of cold, but I sure as heck am looking forward to being able to handle heat better! Right now I hate any weather above 70F
