Question about weight bench selection.

Would it be better to get a weight bench that has a arm curl apparatus than one without one? Are arm curls a really good exercise? BTW, I need to know like NOW. Thanks.

I rarely ever do curls. The Pull-downs, pull-ups, chin-ups and various rows do plenty for the biceps.

Just get a simple flat and incline bench that can support a lot of weight.

Ok. But I'm thinking it couldn't hurt to get the bench with the arm curl attatchment. I mean why not. The more exercises I can do with my set up the better, right?

If you wish.

But here something else to think on...

I'm doing the workouts from "New Rules of Lifting." Alwyn Cosgrove wrote the programs and he's one of the most knowledgable guys in the industry.

He has curls only once in his nine programs, in hypertrophy II and they aren't even preacher or isolation curls. They're towel curls (wrap a towel around a DB and use the towel for the handle).

If he doesn't put preacher curls in his programs, it must mean they aren't necessary.

Yeah, You dont need curls.

All your pulling exercises will be enough. If you really really want to do somehting then just do one set of 15 at the end of your workout. If you start doing 3 sets you may find you'll be over training them and your next workout will suffer.

you need NOTHING more than an adjustable bench. a 'curling apparatus' is going to limit your range of motion on bicep curls, it adds a pulley to cheat you with a mechanical advantage, and the plane of movement is not natural.

if you want to curl, pick up a barbell or some dumbbells, not a stupid machine.

He's probably talking about a preacher curl attachment, like at the end of the bench.

Buy a power rack/cage and an adjustable bench.
