Question about muscle mass

Before the winter started I was running on average a little over three miles a day. As it got colder I ran less and less and eventually I was lucky to run once or twice a week.

Since the weather has been better I've been getting back in the swing of things. Even though I wasn't running much through the winter I still lost weight.

So now that I'm back to running an average of three or more miles a day my weight has gone from about 193 to a pretty solid 200. I'm guessing that this has something to do with muscle mass lost from my inactivity during the winter and now I'm gaining it back, but I'm curious if anyone else has anything to say about it.

I've been sticking well with my diet, I did switch to a vegetarian diet a few weeks ago but I'm still eating healthy foods. So do you think my guess is correct, is this just my body gaining back the muscle it lost?

I've something quite similar. Ever since I started working out again, I've been gaining weight. I put on around 6 pounds. I used to be athletic (weighed 130lbs), until I went idle for a long time. Now i weigh 166lbs. 6 of which I put on as I started working out. I'm doing Jillian's 30 day shred. I'm guessing, it's the muscle mass you mentioned.
I read about it somewhere, they said just keep doing what you're doing, no matter what happens on the scale, don't stop exercising. You'll get there.

I hope they're right.
Good luck!

your body tends to retain fluids in anticipation of exercise also. If you stop for a week you will drop it all :)

It could be something to do with muscle memory. If you didn't run much over the winter and you were losing weight then the chances are you would lose a it of muscle as well as fat. So when you started running again your body will remember how you ran before and your gross motor skills will come into play which may have told your body to grow the muscle you lost during winter so you can perform better at running which you were doing before winter. If that makes sense.
