Question about dieting and calorie intake

Hi guys,

I've got a couple of questions. My girlfriend and I started dieting and working out two weeks ago. We sat down yesterday and worked out roughly what my OH is eating, calorie wise.

I seem to be getting close to 1800 calories a day, and am drinking an impact protein shake after working out, after calculating I need 231g of protein a day. Sometimes I have one for breakfast plus a banana instead of cereal too.

My girlfriend however, is only eating about 1200 calories a day, occaisionally going over a couple of hundred. I am wanting to know whether or not she would also benefit from the shakes or a protein bar snack and whether her taking in this level of calories will actually make it harder for her to lose weight or not?

The way her working day is structured, she doesn't really have much opportunity to add more calories to her diet, unless of course she did have a shake/bar.

These are the stats of the shake I use:
Per 30g:
Energy: 118.0Kcal
Energy: 497.0kJ
Protein (dry basis): 24.6g
Protein (as-is): 23.6g
Fat: 2.1g
Carbohydrates: 1.8g
Calcium: 150.0mg
Cholesterol: 0.6mg

To date she has lost 7lbs this past two weeks, and I have lost 9lbs. We're doing a mix of some weights and 30 mins on the treadmill, all at home. Cheers!

I totally agree.. are you guys trying to lose weight in a set amount of time? 2 weeks, that means the average for you and your gf. is 4.5 and 3.5 pounds/ week respectively. I don't know how to improve much on that. Unless you are both around 400 pounds, that is a pretty good pace! I have found that the more 'normal' a diet is, the longer I can stay on it successfully. If you try and introduce things that are too extraordinary, it may affect the ability to stay on the diet for any duration...
