Question about daily cardio

Hi there,

I'm 5'8 and currently 260lbs. In the past 4 weeks I've been doing cardio in the AM for 45 minutes, and then again the PM for 45 minutes (Elliptical) daily- well usually. (There have been maybe 3-5 days where I've only done one session, but 85% of the time I've done both.) And I've lost 15 pounds since then. I started the new year off at 275. I have also altered my calorie intake so that I only consume 1300-1600 calories per day, no more soda- only water, and limit my carb intake.

It seems to be working so far, but I have been told by a few people I am working out too much (Well meaning friends) and I just wanted to get some opinions of people who might be more knowledgeable in the subject. Is 90 minutes of cardio split into two sessions a day too much? Should I only be doing 2 60 minute sessions? Just the one 45 minute? I don't work anymore, just stay at home with my toddler while watching another toddler, so it is easy to just let myself be lazy and I have felt really good being active as of lately. But at the same time I don't want to be too active and have it work against me!

Appreciate all your advice! Thanks!

Great work with the weight loss. Your body is the best judge of how much is too much. If you feel good and are achieving your goals then don't let well meaning friends side track you. I'm 60 years old and I bike for 2 hours a day and feel great. Don't be afraid to mix it up. Try some shorter time with increased intensity. Do 30 & 30 Minutes but at a much harder pace. So good luck, listen to your body and don't be afraid to take a day off once in a while.
