Pyruvate supplements?

Is anyone familiar with or have tried Pyruvate supplements? I've only recently been learning about ATP and the Krebs Cycle since enrolling in a nutrition course in college.

I wouldn't say this is a "diet pill" but have always stayed away from supplements that claimed to help burn fat. I've figured those are no good for your body if they're powerful even to do something like that. Who knows what else they'd be buring as well. I'd never take something like Hydroxycut or whatever.

I'm a senior on my college's track and field team. I'm just about to retire from throws events. I weight lift regularly and have a pretty good muscle build. But I haven't done much cardio in college because my coach was concerned I'd put too much stress on my knees, mess up my fast twitch muscle fibers, and also lose too much weight. Body-wise, I'm one of the smallest throwers around. But since my college career is coming to an end shortly, I'm ready to focus more on cardio, lose the excess fat and continue with my weightlifting routine.

During a common training day, I'll most likely do cardio first thing in the morning before work. Then if the evening I'd do my weight lifting routine. I might switch it up and lift in the mornings and do cardio later in the day. I'll have to see how things work out since I'm about to become a working girl joining corperate America.... Generally I like cardio in the morning because it helps me feel energized for the day. Although I'm not sure about the Pyruvate, if I were to take it, would I want to take it around my cardio time?

I don't want to start taking too many supplements. I already take the following: whey protein, creatine, and BCAA powder; fish oil, glucosamine, St. John's wort and a multivitamin. I already feel like a major pill popper :S

What do you think about the Pyruvate? Could it be helpful or should I stay away from it? Thanks for your advice!
