Push ups...

I just saw an article in Esquire about men getting rid of their "man breasts". As I read through it I thought it should be posted at Walmart.

Anyway, the article did suggest that men who have a saggy chest should begin doing push ups.

I do agree. I have done push ups for years. They work the whole upper body, as you all know, and can be done anywhere. I always have to laugh when I read on other forums, "I'm going on vacation and don't know where to workout. What should I do???"

Do some push ups. One of my favorite workouts is a 20 minute jump rope session followed by as many push-ups as I can do.

Anway, I just wanted to post and say "don't forget the push-ups."

I love push-ups! Do 'em all the time.

Cool!

Sometimes, maybe out of boredom, I'll just stop and do 50 push-ups. I don't know what it is about them, Spartan like.

I knew a fellow who won a BB contest in the Philippines training on push-ups, deep knee bends and sit-ups. He had one of the best tricep/shoulder/pec combinations I've seen.

Until 3 weeks ago, I only worked out using bodyweight exercises - push ups, pull ups, chin ups, dips, etc. Compound movements utilizing multiple muscle groups and stabilizers - awesome!

I found a workout on the net a few years ago that went like this:

Day 1: as many push-ups as you can
Day 2: as many sit-ups as you can
Day 3: 2 sets of pull-ups, 3 sets of push-ups, 3 sets of sit-ups, as many as you can in each set.
Day 4: As many pull ups as you can
Day 5: Rest
Day 6: Repeat.

A very nice program.

I see you are from Sacramento. I grew up in Loomis, graduated from Del Oro H.S. Taught school in Elverta.

Does anyone know what a healthy amount of pushups to aim for would be. I try to do bodyweight exercises 3 times a week. In the push up area, I'm up to 3 sets of 15 push ups.

oh come on now. you can do more then that!!! push your self to the limit!! you can never do to many push ups. unless of course, your sore from a previous chest routine. i would suggest resting in that case.

A healthy amount? - That I do not know, cause I don't think there is.

The more you do, the more you can do - so keep doing them. You'll start doing 3 sets of 25 and then sets of 35 or 45 and then 50 - eventually you will do 100. It's all up to you.

If you arn't working out with weights (or even if you are - I don't know how this would effect) do them throughout the day - every day.

also a good idea to make sure you're doing them with proper form. man i've seen some people do them so sloppily i dont think anything was gained by doing them.
