Push ups in the evening?

Every night before I go to bed I like to do push ups. Even though I can do 50 in a row, I feel it after I do that many. I'm a discus and hammer thrower on a track and field team for college. We lift Monday, Wednesday, Friday and throw five days a week. I don't want to burn out my upper body.

Although I can easily do the 50 push ups, I started with 10 a night. I increase one a week. I think it would be neat if I could just do 100 push ups and think nothing of it. I'm intentionally increasing slowly since I have an establish weight lifting and throwing routine that I don't want to overdo it. The pushups aren't part of my lifting routine; it's just something more so I know I can do them. I also do them on my knuckles so they add additional strengthening to my wrists.

I'm starting slow to help from fatiguing my muscles. Do you think this is alright to do or will it mess up my routine/overwork my muscles? Thanks.

I think such a small amount of damage, if any, that is applied to your upper body will just help you in the long run. Don't quote me though. I'd research it thoroughly. But if you have a good diet it should be a plus for you.

If i am wrong. Please someone say so, cause i do the same thing. lol.

just before you lie down, stretch your lats...

the constant pushups will develop your forward pull, by stretching the lats and pecks you will maintain a better pusture.

ALSO- if you do not work on strengthening the trap (the full trap) you will develop poor posture.

Just look at Marko! hahaha

*looks almost as bad as me!!

It all depends on what you're doing in the weight room. A discus and hammer thrower should be focusing more on muscular power above anything else, and what you decide to do outside of the weight room (assuming you are going to do something) should not differ from your routines. Doing a lot of olympic lifting in the weight room, or plyometrics?

Instead of focusing on doing as many push ups as you can (which does not improve muscle power), challenge yourself a different way. Wear a weighted vest, do military-style push-ups where you have to clap both hands together after pushing yourself off the ground.
