Punch bag, Is there a need for gloves?

I was wondering i am buying a punch bag. Do i need boxing gloves? Will it damage me if i don't use them?

Don't make the mistake i did. Training without gloves not only damaged my knuckles but also my nerves, these day a few jabs without proper bandages makes my hands shaky and the pain is excruciating. Always wear protection while sparing no matter with what or who. Conserve the pain for others to enjoy...

Ok another thing i don't know if you can help me with what gloves should i buy?

MIT's or gloves.

here is a link to a page with lots on what ones do u recommend i get?

Thanks in advanced

While we are on the topic, I have a nice pair of everlast gloves that I use to hit bags. Does anyone use the wraps four your hands before you put on the gloves or is that unnecessary. I just put on the gloves, but when I was at a boxing gym once I noticed everyone puts on the wraps. Are the wraps necessary for hand protection or can you get the same protection without the wraps and only the gloves?

Yeah the wraps do look cool and there is a certain way that boxers wrap them, I learned it and did it for a month once, but that was like 3 years ago and have totally forgot how it goes. I guess it's for protection, but my question is, is it really necessary? The reason I ask this is if it isn't really necessary, I'd rather not do it, cause you really start getting lazy to go through all that everytime you hit the bag. Sometimes you just wanna put the gloves on just start hittin. Kind of like when you wanna just play sports without stretching. It can really get annoying sometimes.

i go boxing and they make us wear them but when im at home i dont and i dont think there is really a difference.so i wouldnt worry

You shouldn't hit anything with out wraps. They are the cheapest thing you can buy, and they do a lot. First off they keep your wrists straight, and solid. They also keep all your bones in your hand stabilized. They protect your knuckles, by both cousioning and from scraping the inside of the glove (which will tear off your skin like no other). So yes, get some wraps. And don't try to kill the bag...

ok yes use gloves pay the extra for a good leather pair that actually protect your hands wrap, wrap is to help support your wrist it isnt really a neceseity if you are just punching litely but if you are going full on i do recommend it its pretty anoying putting them on everytime but it takes a good 10 minutes to put both on its pretty simple just search google :) i regret going hard on a heavy bag without gloves my knuckles are in heaps of pain and a few blood vessles have been torn now it will probably take a week for recovery :( ahh serves me right for being lazy

(go down to "wrapping hands")
