I believe it depends on what your grip is to know which muscles to work. if your palms are facing away from you then very little if any chest muscles are being used. If you have access to a lat pulldown machine thats what works your pullup muscles. Its a machine where you sit down and just pull a bar from up above your head, down to your chest. If you dont know what it is ask someone at your gym. If you have a pullup bar then just set a chair under it and assist yourself up, make sure you don't let your legs do all the work either, they are for assistance. and if your going for strength put on enough weight to only be able to do like 3-6 reps. And you'll have to push yourself to the limit on your last rep, you shouldn't be able to pump out a couple more reps at the end of one set. Do like 2-3 sets of both of those every 3-4 days and you'll get it. train hard and it'll pay off.

most decent sized gyms have assistive pull-up machines where you can add counter weight to make it a bit easier. If there aren't any, then get assitance from a friend or a trainer to hold your legs to take off some of the weight.
