Psychology of weight loss (is this common?)

Hi all,

I have lost close to 50 pounds since July '07 when I vowed to never be fat again. I have been overweight since I was around 7 years old and I'm now 21. Wrestled in high schoool in the 189 section and thought I was fat then (well, I was, but compared to now not at all). Ballooned up after that to around 220. Then in college I ended up over 300 pounds by not weighing myself for years and eating tons of junk (fast food) and never exercising.

What I've been doing since July has been working. I've averaged 1.5 pounds a week loss for over 6 months. But I'm wondering if it will ever really happen? Will I get to be a "normal" weight? Common sense tells me as long as I keep doing what I'm doing I'll be there in 2 years. I don't know, it's just this feeling of what it will be like as I've been the fat kid/guy ever since I could remember. My clothes fit great; had to buy new dress shirts for work as I went from a 3XL to an XL (though it's tight, I can butten it up). Even my winter coat I bought in December fits better each time I put it on.

Is this a common feeling? I think it must be. Anyone else care to share their experience?

What's a normal weight? that's pretty much relative to the person.

Will you ever get to a weight and stay at a weight you're comfortable with? that's entirely up to you and you're mindset... Are you dieting - or have you made alifestyle change with new habits, etc... If it's the latter, then you will absolutely get there.

Being satsified with what you see in the mirror has little to do with the number on the scale and that is what takes effort for some people. You're still quite young so you shouldn't have a problem putting the last few years behind you and moving forward with a fit new body... and fit new mindset...

Just keep going one day at a time...

Well, I'm sure he means a healthy weight. Probably the doctor recommended 20-24 BMI.

You've already lost 50 lbs. Hard work pays off. Mal, the poster above, lost close to 200 lbs in 2 years. No surgery or anything. Remember that permanent weight loss requires lifestyle changes. It doesn't matter if it'll take a year, two, or three to reach your goal weight. Because it's a lifestyle you'll have to stick with for the rest of your life if you want to stay fit and healthy.

Keep on eating healthy and exercising. Good luck.

I always say this, but if I can do it, anyone can do it. I used to hate hearing people use that phrase becuase I felt like, "well arent you special!" But i understand what they meant now. If I stop making everything so complicated, and just simplify the problem, it will be alot easier to overcome.

Just a thought! Take care.
