Protien Shake Before Workout?

I read in the new rules book that it's good to have protien before and after a workout...does that mean it would be a good idea to do my shake before working out, like 30 minutes to an hour before, and then eating some protien after?

I've found that after working out and drinking a shake I'm not really that hungry and might not eat for a while and I feel like i'm short changing myself. So, I figure if I get the shake in before and then eat after I'm getting plenty of protien close to my workouts. I don't like eating heavy stuff in the morning or before working out, so this way would work better for me.

I always have a slice of whole wheat bread with peanut butter and honey on it, a piece of fruit, and a protein shake before my workout. This gives me plenty of carbs for energy and protein for my muscles. Then after the workout I have another protein shake to be sure I am getting enough protein for maximum muscle gain.

The general rule of thumb is a protien source immediately before your workout and a protien and carb source after. If you work this into your typical eating 6 times a day schedule this replaces 2 of your meals/snacks.

I workout first thing in the morning. I do a protien shake (12 oz milk, 2 eggs, 22 grams of whey) before I leave the house for the gym (so about 15 minutes before I start hitting it) and half a grapefruit, a banana, oatmeal and a protien shake (12 oz milk, 22 grams whey) after. Then I only need 4 more meals/snacks throughout the rest of the day.

I always have a little bowl of steel cut oats, and a 22g protein shake, along with 20 oz of water before lifting. After, I have 44g protein, 1/2 cup oats, a banana, 12 oz milk, all blended up, delicious, and full of fuel.

I get super hungry after lifting.

1-2 hours after imbibing my drink, I'll have oats, fruit and eggs.
