protein

i just bought a weight gainer called cytogainer..it has about 54 grams of protein per serving..can you even absorb this much at one time?

thats a myth. there is no evidence that we can absorb only a certain amount at one time. but anywhere from 20-40 grams is more than enough for most ppl :)

Possibly, but there is a lot of importance attached to consuming the protein over a number of small meals that are spread out over the day. Is there any reason behind that?

The word protein is derived from the Greek word "Proteios,"which literally means "of prime importance." Much of what we see when we look in the mirror is protein — our skin, hair, fingernails and muscles, for instance.

Enzymes, hormones and antibodies, all critical to the function of the body, are types of proteins. Enzymes facilitate various chemical reactions in the body (e.g. breaking down food during digestion). Hormones such as insulin and thyroid regulate the body in many ways. (NOTE: Not all hormones are proteins - estrogen and testosterone, for example, are sterols). Antibodies, which are proteins, make up a critical part of the body's immune system.

One of the primary uses of protein in the body is to synthesize structural proteins such as muscle, skin and hair. Protein is also used to synthesize peptide hormones such as growth hormone (GH), insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), insulin and glucagon. Additionally, protein is used to synthesize transport proteins, such as albumin, which is used to transport other substances through the bloodstream.

a couple of years ago will brink offered a reward to anyone from doctors, researchers, professors, etc who could provide evidence that ppl can only absorb and utilize a certain amount of protein at one time. no one claimed the money because its a myth. on the other side of that, there are studies showing non-exercising ppl can process and utlize up to 50-60 grams of protein at a time. :)

it simply depends on you're muscle mass.
Obviously, if you have hulking muscles .. they require more protein.
If you're not big at all ... then 30 is perfect.
if you're somewhat bulkyish, then 40 is a safe bet.

abear get out of town :0 . I've seen in writing by Joe Weider that you can only assimilate 30 grams of protein per meal.

champr23 then how do 260 pound body builders get over 260 grams of protein a day !?!
:D pwned lol... just because you chug a 50gram protein shake in 5 minutes does not mean that shake will be digested that quickly. it's a process, and most people can probably handle about 40 grams in one sitting. that's not to say anything above that goes to waste, ie. casien protein will be digested over a period of 2-8 hours, which would leave plently of time for absorbtion.

why did he single out me? what did i do? :p

Joe Weider also can't think for himself, and has regularly stole others idea's, marketed them under his 'Weider Princples of Training', and then threatens lawsuits if they try to lay claim to the original idea.

Weider is FAR from being correct about half the things that spew from his mouth.
