Sport protein without the fat

Sport Fitness
Hi

I am looking into increasing my protein intake but without foods with saturated fat.
I know that fish/tuna, and beans are good for this.
Is it ok to eat those chicken breast slices you get in packets ? They are pretty low in sat fat arent they ?
I dont really want to eat just fish and beans, nor do i want to buy those protein powders (too expensive). Has anyone got any nice foods that can give me this extra protein ?

Thanks

Mackabee

Besides fish and beans:

Chicken white meat without skin
Turkey white meat without skin
Egg whites
Skim milk dairy products (but has lactose)
Nuts and nut butters (high in fat, but mostly unsaturated)
Tofu (has fat, mostly unsaturated)
Clams
Shrimp
Squid
Some vegetarian meat substitutes

Be careful of any of the above when breaded and fried. Adds a lot of calories, and some places uses hydrogenated oils in their fryers.

You need to do the math on protein powders.
$40 for 5lbs is an avg. price for a good whey blend.
That's usally about 80 servings at 25g protein per serving. So, 50 cents a serving.
You will NOT find chicken breast at 50 cents per 25g of protein.

Not saying you HAVE to take a protein supplement, but you are wrong that they are 'expensive'.

Exactly!!! Sometime if you look around you can get even better deals.

I was a bit rushed earlier. To directly answer your question...

assuming you have no problems with lactose intolerance, cottage cheese is a good protein source that's pretty cheap. so are egg whites.

nothing that wrong with whole eggs IF your fat intake needs the yolks and you don't have high cholesterol / genetic pre-disposition to high cholesterol.

i personnally toss a couple whole omega yolks in with my daily egg whites. adds flavor, improves texture, and gives me some omega fatty acids.

unfortunatley i have high cholesterol and i am trying to lower it through diet firstly. So i cant have egg yolks.
I am thin so am trying to bulk up a little without the sat fat.

interesting what you say about the protein powder - when you work it out per serving you do save...

Have you talked to a doc about your cholesterol problems? You should probably find out if you're a cholesterol hypo- or hyperresponder (people who will see an increase in their blood cholesterol from eating dietary cholesterol and people who won't, respectively) in order to figure out the cause of the problem. Do you usually eat a lot of sugar or other fast acting carbs?

When you say vegetarian meats I know 'quorn' is meant to be very good for a protein source.
