protein mixed with carbs?

People I know keep advising me not to mix protien with carbs. ie: chicken and rice or potato and tuna, is there any reasoning behind this?...
I have put small amounts of rice with my salmon and tuna lately but worry that this starch carb could sit and turn to fat if I dont manage to completely burn iot all off?...why the "dont mix protein with carbs" nonsense?

Nothing biological, but more psychologically. Chicken and tuna creates the neurotransmitter dopamine and a whole grain rice or carb creates seratonin. If you mix them, the dopamine has a tendency to cancel out the effects of seratonin. Both regulate mood, but they both have different properties.

Here's a quote from LowCarbEzine, July 2001 issue:

the most common argument against eating carbs and proteins together is that proteins are digested in the stomach, in an acidic medium, while carbohydrates are digested in the small intestine, in an alkaline medium, meaning that you may not completely digest either one. There have been arguments over the years that this lack of digestion will cause fat to be deposited, but personally I can't see this for mud. It is only those foods which you *do* digest and absorb which will affect your blood sugar and insulin levels, provide calories, and put fat on you. However, if you have a tendency to indigestion and heartburn, you might want to forego the carb foods entirely.

it's nice to know that is nonsense and that we should only pay attention at portions cuz I read the same thing 2 days ago and I got really amazed and also kinda worried
