Promoting Fitness Education

Hello All,
My reason for participating in this forum is to fight fitness fraud and promote well-supported fitness information. For decades there has been an incredible amount of mis-information promoted to the public. AND it must be working and the junk must be selling because the adds and infomercials just keep coming.

So I offer my information-only web site at fitnessandfallacies.com and invite all to review and comment. Let's all do our part to help everyone know the facts! I have nothing to sell, only education to give.

Please pass the link to all your friends!

Yours for fitness and truth,

Not a lot of information on the website, which is unfortunate because from what I read it looks very good. A well informed critique of popular unscientific heath claims such as anti-carb dieting.

The only thing I would change is:

"However it is NOT lactic acid that causes the sore muscles that are felt a day or two following a workout. This soreness is caused by damage that occurs in the contractile units of the muscles when a workout is too hard. A well designed exercise program should not cause sore muscles. Sore muscles are an indication that the workout was excessive, given the condition of the subject"

Sore muscles are inevitable for anyone beginning an exercise program, especially eccentric contractions, so I think that simply stating soreness = excessive may be somewhat misleading. With DOMS for exampe, creatine kinase levels skyrocket, indicating muscle damage and is positively correlated with muscle pain. However, this first bout of exercise protects against this rise in ceatine kinase in the future and hence percieved muscle pain diminishes - even if the exercise is higher in intensity.

Thanks, Matt

Hi Matt,
Thank you for your excellent post. Your added info is certainly valuable on a site like this. My thoughts with regards to fitnessandfallacies.com is to keep it short, sweet and accurate for those who may not have an extensive background in exercise physiology.

T0 ALL,
YOUR COMMENTS ARE IMPORTANT. ALL VIEWS ARE VALID. THANKS!
