Power cleans

Today I did some power cleans. What muscle groups are they supposed to work? They mostly made my traps sore.

well they definitly work the upper traps. but also hams, glutes, calfs, lower back.. list goes on, it pretty much works the entire body. And remember, soreness is not an inducator of a good workout ;)

Power Cleans are a Compound exercise and therefore work many muscles. To me, I get a good leg work from power cleans.

Yea, it was my first time doing them so I used a lighter weight. Anytime I do a totally new exercise, or one I haven't done in a very long time, I'm usually pretty darn sore. Once I start using heavier weights I'll probably have to squat down more and it'll hit my legs more.

just remember, if you squat down below quarter squat, it stops being a power clean and becomes a clean. and the leg work is not only from the squating, but from the explosive hip motion thats where most of the power comes from. That works the hams and glutes mostly. And remember, olympic lifting is a lot of nerve training, you work the CNS, which has alot more potential to make you stronger than your muscles ;) so you might not be as sore from oly pulling as you would from maybe squats or deads.

For instance, if you caught the weight in a full front squat, it would be referred to as a "squat clean". Whereas in a power clean, the catch phase is more or less in an upright position.
