If you go to biggestloser.com you can sign up for the "Pound for Pound" challenge. For every pound you lose, one pound of food will be donated to the needy. If you need some extra motivation this may help and it's for a good cause ;)

Around christmas I always adopt a family, and even know money is really really tight right now (I blame shcool and my car, which is accurate, but the main culprit is my wasteful spending).

I get joy out of this. They dont' know. But know i makde their christmas makes me feel good.

I have yet to find another charity that gives me the same feeling. In pasts yea Ive donated close to 500 dollars (80 of which I consider charity because i donated to HIllary's Compaign to help wth her debt. A small amount, but Its worth it. I would love to see a hillary 2016. I think he tough exteror, the fact that shes a women who isn't weak, makes a biased opinion of her. I find it disgusting, back the to topic. I also donatd about 80 to various causes (philabundance, somes aid thing, and uh some forestry thing)

I don't get any feeling from it. I give every now and then and feel nothing. Only the chrsitmas family, where I recieve only a blanket thank you directed atl the lab, do I feel accomplishmnent. EVen without that, I would still fee great.I like buying dinner for friends and such not expecting anything in turn. '

I think it turns to, I want to know exactly what the money goes to. I've read up, but I find it all fairly incomplete. I automatiucally try to avoid characties that are based on some religious agenda. I made an exception for the adopting a family thing. I do not believe it to be a religious charitiy but I would still give.

I'm not against relgigious charities, its just I don't believe in any organization that spreads religion to people. Especially in those cases in foregn countries where the conversions lead the locals in trouble with law enforment (china) if things are discovered. ALso sending underage children as missionarys to smuggle bibles in first aid supplies. Its just aweful. I've alsoheard of force conversionas being needed for people to recieve trreatment. My friend did it at 16, said that didn't go on there. I have read other stories.

sorry to go off topic. CHarity is good. Especially around now. I advocate practice. If your family can avoid it (ie - you have too much already) give your kids one big present (usually the top of their list) then taking them shopping to buy for others. I think it teaches a great lesson If you make it a tradition then its likelythey will pass it along to their family.

That said, its agreat idea. Maybe we should make a goal and track it. LIke the weight-loss.fitness.net group

Good for you Jeff. I wish I had more money to give, especially now that time's are tough and charities are desperate. But, if you don't have money to donate, your own hard work and time can be valuable. Not everyone has money to give, I know I don't have extra cash to give out. Help out at a local soup kitchen, I have a salvation Amry by my house that always needs help. I find that interacting with people one-on-one is worth more not only to myself, but to those I'm helping. Sometimes the best gift you can give is just warm conversation and a smile.
