I may be getting a 300lb barbell set soon, and If I do I'll be starting a simple barbell routine sort of based on ripptoe's going something like this, with squats and deadlifts being the corner stones of the program:
Workout A:
Squat
Bench
Bent over row
Workout B:
Deadlift
Pullup
Military Press
M/W/F week 1 - ABA, week 2 - BAB ~ pretty standard stuff.
I know this isn't ripptoe's program because I've changed a lot, but I have a couple questions:
Is this the best combination/arrangement of these exercises?
Since the dead lift is a big posterior pull, would It be a better idea for me to do bench + military press on deadlift days, and bent over row and pullup on squat days?
Or would it be best not to put military and bench presses on the same day because they both work the shoulders a lot?
I'm guessing this will all be best answered by me after trying this routine for a bit, but if anyone has had experience with a split like this, any comments would be appreciated.
Also, I've never done such a low volume program. Obviously I'm going to be hitting the exercises pretty hard, but should I still add in 1 or 2 remedial exercises to the days? like bicep curls, tricep extensions, lunges, hamstring curls, lateral raises, etc. Or is it best just to hammer as hard as possible on the 'big 6' as I see them.
